RUINING PALATES SINCE 2002
In June 2012, we celebrated the 10th birthday of our notoriously mega-hopped double IPA, Stone Ruination IPA, with the release of a very special version that was even bigger and, incredibly, even hoppier than the original. If Stone Ruination IPA is “A Liquid Poem to the Glory of the Hop,” then Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA was an amped-up heavy metal version of that ode delivered with the force of a sledgehammer. Luckily for us, our fans love loud and aggressive brews, specifically when copious amounts of humulus lupulus are involved. The original release of this beer was so instantly beloved by those who dared try it

For all the machismo about this beer, it’s actually the subtlety that nails it. For a start, it’s better as it warms - the flavours then blend together a lot better and the volume is turned up for both aroma and taste. The heavy elements then combine well - the hops prove orange marmalade; the malt gives a robust caramel base; the alcohol provides a kick towards the end, and then the hops return to provide the bitterness. If you take your time with it then it really rewards you with a peppery finish and smooth power throughout. Aroma is mostly piney and not as big as I expected. Typical IPA colour with little head. Thick, oily body.

Draft. Poured deeper amber with a sticky white head. The aroma picked up syrupy caramel and honeyed malts with fresh pine resin and citrus around.. peppery and warm on the back of the nose. The flavor found a sweet base of caramel with bright, strong citrus and peppery bitterness around.. finished with tasty, bitter, resiny hops and a nice kiss of sweetness. Heavier-bodied and thick on the palate.. good flow, though.. great stuff!

Bottled 6/13/15 A pungent beast in the freshly opened bottle. Sort of lacks definition but BIG and orangy amber with a vibrance that takes few prisoners. Good sweet sappy body rolled in a brutal blanket to pounding bitterness and alcohol. Very nice.

2015/08/18 - Pours a translucent orange-copper colour with a thick, foamy, off white head that slowly reduces. Aroma is bread, caramel, citrus and pine with floral and earthy notes. Taste is sweet bread, citrus, heavy pine, slightly toasted notes and earthy hops. Mouthfeel is medium and slick with biting carbonation and a mildly sweet, highly bitter, drying finish. Really great balance between sweet and bitter. Dangerously drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours nice orange gold with a fast-fading off white head. Aroma is caramel and citrus. Mildly sweet. Taste follows with real pine hop bitterness knitted in with the citrus. Very good.

Bottle from Good Spirits Wine and Beer Co. Pours a translucent amber/bronze colour with a slight off-white head which soon recedes to a foamy layer. Aroma is caramel, slight malt, earthy hops, sprucey hops, pine needley hops. Taste is caramel, medium-high bitterness which becomes apparent straight away, malty, resinous, sprucey and earthy.

This was poured into a snifter. Bottling date of 06/17/15. The appearance was a hazy amber color with a slight transparency about it. A slim finger’s worth of white foaminess of a head slides into the beer. The smell had a juicy bittersweet blend of citrus, floral and piney hops running into an underlying score of malts, ever so delicate. The taste was pure bittersweet, such a nice balance from the hops blending spectacularly with the malts. A sweet juicy citrus aftertaste runs into the finish in a slight sticky sort of fashion. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a sneaky sessionability about it. 10.8%, hmmm, alcohol seems to hide itself stealthily. Overall, uh...yeah, this was a spectacular DIPA. I would definitely have again.

Draft 10 oz pour at special brews. For some reason, I passed on this bottle time and time again waiting to find it on tap. Lucky day. Pours a clear copper color with a thin fizz head. Earthy hop forward aroma. Smooth and rich favor that hides the double digit abv quite well. Huge hop finish. Description calls it right. Ruination with a lot more hops. Tasty beer.
