COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
RUINING PALATES SINCE 2002
In June 2012, we celebrated the 10th birthday of our notoriously mega-hopped double IPA, Stone Ruination IPA, with the release of a very special version that was even bigger and, incredibly, even hoppier than the original. If Stone Ruination IPA is “A Liquid Poem to the Glory of the Hop,” then Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA was an amped-up heavy metal version of that ode delivered with the force of a sledgehammer. Luckily for us, our fans love loud and aggressive brews, specifically when copious amounts of humulus lupulus are involved. The original release of this beer was so instantly beloved by those who dared try it

Dark orange pour, fluffy white head. Aroma is humongous citrus: orange, grapefruit, lemon. Also lots of garlic and onion, typical of Stone IPAs. Sticky mouthfeel, super dry finish. Good one.

Bottled 6/25/14. Pours a clear copper color with a finger of off white head. Aroma is huge; grapefruit, pine, a bit of dankness. Taste is bitter hops up front, followed by some sweet malt flavors. Slightly bready. Bitter finish, but not as intense as I expected. Smooth, creamy mouth feel. Overall this is an intense, yet amazing, beer.

Bottle from Wholefoods liquor. Amber color, white head. Bitter taste with grapefruit, floral hops, mango, peach, resin and pine. Velvet smooth body with exceptionally good balance between malts and hops. Bitter finish with grapefruit, floral hops, mango and resin. Exquisite imperial IPA.

22 oz. bottle from Friar Tuck’s poured into a pint glass. Aroma is sweet, heavy malt and light honey up front with a mixture of faint pine and grapefruit hops afterward. Pleasant aroma, but I thought it would be stronger. Pours out a beautiful bright golden color. The only thing that keeps it from being a 5 on appearance is the huge foamy head which should be smaller for such a strong beer. Leaves some sticky lacing on the side of the glass. Taste is bitter, but in a good way. The malt sweetness stands up to it at first, but gives up quickly and the aftertaste is all hops. I am not finding it to be that much hoppier than Ruination, despite the higher IBU’s. Some alcohol burn, which I don’t mind at all. If it weren’t for the alcohol, this beer would be a one dimensional hop bomb. Palate is smooth, not overly carbonated. Definitely a sipper, it will take me a while to finish this bottle. Overall, I liked it but there are other strong Imperial IPA’s that I like more. Good, not great. It is reasonably priced; Kudos to Stone because they could have jacked up the price due to its high ABV and being an anniversary release.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a copper color with a large creamy beige head. Rich resiny hop aroma. Notes of vanilla, wood and dark caramel. Spicy toasted malt flavor. Complex bitter hops have a resiny note. Mid taste brings notes of vanilla, briny olives and Goldberg Peanut Chews. Finish is a rush of peppery hops, mesquite and burnt caramel. Very well done.

Ruination cranked up to a ten, sign me up. The pour was typical IPA amber, body clear, carbonation gentle, and the head spare. The smell was loaded with grapefruit and was so intoxicating, it made me hold it up to my nose for several seconds at a time. The taste was beyond perfect in the hop assault, as the grapefruit was concentrated into a strong tonic. In addition to the citrus fruit, I could also sense flavors of butterscotch, pineapple, and strawberry. The body was dense, sticky, and oily, leaving a coating of hops in place of the original mucous that had been stripped off my tongue. The finish was spicy and boozy. I got this at Green’s just a month from bottled on date, and it was oh so splendidly fresh.

Pours copper color with white head. Floral hop aroma with citrus and big pine. Sweet caramel malt start but only lasts for a second when you receive a big kick in the teeth of hops. Finish is grapefruit and pine. Lingering bitter finish. Stone has really outdone themselves this time.

On tap at Whole Foods. Orangish-gold pour with white head. Resin, pine, citrus, dank light fruit. Bitterness off the charts. Moderately sweet. Crisp, fully, somewhat sticky body. A well crafted beer, but I didn’t enjoy it that much.

22 oz bottle is re-release 2014 vintage. Pours a very clear deep amber orange color. The quickly fading head leaves a dense coating of sticky lacing. Aroma is massive: Pine, malt, grapefruit, and booze. Words are inadequate. Flavor is ruinous: citrus, hops, pine, malt, all wrapped together in a boozy complexity that is not unpleasant. This is a beer that needs to be shared several ways.

Look: pours a light orange color. Slightly amber. White head with thick lacing. Smell: definite dank smell. Citrus, pineapple, pine, lemon. Slight sweet bubble gum. Taste: pepper. Definite bitter. Dank flavor. Pineapple. Heavy alcohol heat. Feel: thick film on the palate. Heavy carbonation. Overall: ok. Alcohol isn't hidden at all. Piney dank flavor hangs on the palate. First drank: home 7/2/14
