RUINING PALATES SINCE 2002
In June 2012, we celebrated the 10th birthday of our notoriously mega-hopped double IPA, Stone Ruination IPA, with the release of a very special version that was even bigger and, incredibly, even hoppier than the original. If Stone Ruination IPA is ďA Liquid Poem to the Glory of the Hop,Ē then Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA was an amped-up heavy metal version of that ode delivered with the force of a sledgehammer. Luckily for us, our fans love loud and aggressive brews, specifically when copious amounts of humulus lupulus are involved. The original release of this beer was so instantly beloved by those who dared try it

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2013 Bomber from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of citrus and floral hops with a bit of melon. The taste starts earthy with a significant toffee malt backbone and big hops... citrus, resin, leafy, herbal. Medium-full bodied, lingering bitterness, no heat. I was hoping for a palate assaulting beer, and I think this will fit the bill nicely. 6/4/8/4/16

2013 Version... Bomber from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours a clear copper color with a large creamy off-white head. Good head retention. Aroma of dank, sticky, resiny hops, some tropical notes and toffee malts. The taste is bitter resin, pine, citrus hops and strong toffee malts, almost a little bit buttery. Some tropical hop notes return in the finish. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. 8/4/7/4/15

Pours an unclear dark orange with long lasting sticky off white lacing. Smell is dark wet pine. Smell is sweet pine and citrus; quite powerful. Taste is fresh squeezed hoppy pine resin, grapefruit, in yo face bitter, alcohol, malty sweetness become thick on the tongue. Yes, I will use the descriptor dank as well. The hops are a full on assault. This is a damn fine beer, and certainly over the top for a ipa.

22oz bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Pours a cloudy, orange-golden colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is really nice with lots of tropical fruits and mangos, peaches, grapefruits, sweet pineapples, and tangerines with a juicy resin and a nice mix of pines and florals. Solid caramel backing with a moderate sweetness and a touch of dough. Flavor is similar. Lots of tangerines and tropical fruits up front with some pineapples, grapefruits, peaches, biscuity pale malts, and juicy resins. Medium sweet caramel comes on nicely in the middle as the hops stay juicy and sweet, but pick up the pines and light grassy notes towards the end. Grapefruit comes out a bit more towards the end as well before this finishes dry and bitter, but really well balanced with lots of fruity hops and a nice malt sweetness. A light alcohol warmth in a lengthy aftertaste following a medium-full, somewhat creamy body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, this is just a really solid, fresh DIPA. Tons of tropical fruits and citruses with a nice juicy resin, piney bitterness, and slightly doughy pale malt and caramel backing. Highly enjoyable.

Nice looking, orange/tan and clear, nice lasting head and great lace. Aroma is just amazing. You can smell the oily hops rising off the head. Monster pine and grapefruit. Fruity citrus notes. Taste is an amazing hop bomb from the ninth layer of light beer hell! This is what BMC drinkers have to consume when the devil wins their soul in a poker game! Great big hop cones blast your taste buds with amazing flavors of citrus (grapefruit, oranges, tangerines), pine, pine resin, a lovely sweetness, and a great malty base. Well carbonated with a pretty rich, full mouthfeel. Not dry at all, finishes pretty sweet for a double IPA. Lingering sweetness and bitterness. Iíve read the reviews and I donít really concur that thereís a noticeable alcohol presence. I donít detect it, I think itís pretty damn smooth stuff considering the ABV. In a word - Stone. Thatís all that really needs to be said. Congratulation on ten years of one of the best IPAs, and best breweries on the planet!

22oz bottle. Hazy golden pour with some white head. Nose is all hops, as youíd expect. Pine, resin, dank, grapefruit - you name it, itís here. Flavor has a good amount of malt sweetness to stand up to the onslaught of hops. Bitter finish.

pours amber with a thick white head, leaving a small amout of lacing on the glass.citrus aroma of grapefruit, tangerines and pine.flavor is grapefruit, malt, candied ginger and has a warming alchohol bite that is quite pleasant.medium bodied with a fizzy mouthfeel and a extremely long dry finish.this is the kind of beer is wish i was pairing with food.perhaps some spicey indian food or a good hot and sour soup.sweetness balances well with the hops.

Bottle. Pours a clear ruby tinged amber with a medium to large white head. Bright citrus with a deep musky note to it, caramel hops, candied citrus, and a touch of pungent earthy alcohol behind it. Medium bodied, sweet candied malt right away. Moves quickly into a large amount of dank hops. Candy and citrus. A bit sweeter than I might like but ever so tasty. Lots of long pithy grapefruit and quinine on the finish. Very nice.

22oz bottle. Pours clear reddish gold with a medium fluffy off-white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is piney, resiny, peppery and dank hops and some sweet caramel malts with a touch of alcohol. Some fruits come out as it warms.

The flavor is sweet bready caramel malts and fruit with a resiny, floral, slightly charred hop finish with lots of bitterness in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, I think the additional malts (and alcohol) make this seem a little more balanced and less one-dimensional than the regular Ruination. A fun big resiny hop bomb.

Poured into a snifter out of a 22oz bomber. Appearance is a slightly hazy dark orange with a tiny bit of lace on top in place of a head. The smell is absolutely wonderful. A wonderful mix of pine and citrus. Lots of pineapple. Just a hint of alcohol. A very inviting aroma. The flavor is just a wall of hops. Unbelievable bitterness with the pine and citrus halfway buried by the bitterness. There are really no malt flavors at all as it is completely hops. A touch solventy and I donít think the alcohol is very well hidden. I can definitely tell this beer is almost 11% abv. Mouthfeel is full and fairly sticky. Overall, while this is an impressive brew I really canít say I like it over Ruination of even Stone IPA. It is a little too one dimensional and over the top. Probably wonít pick up again but Iím glad I got to try it.
