In spring 2011, Stone bought the farm, literally, taking over 19 acres of fertile Southern California soil where we now grow pristine fruits, vegetables, herbs and more for our Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens restaurants. A taste of our homespun farm-to-tableism is provided in this farmhouse ale stoked with lemon zest, plus lemon thyme and lavender straight from Stone Farms. This spring-to-summer saison is citric and herbal on the palate with a dry, peppery finish. Thanks to the infusion of fresh West Coast ingredients, this isn’t your everyday saison. It’s our saison—100% Stone. Celebrate the sunny season with an authentic taste of our farm and, with it, our commitment to quality.

Draft at Standard Market. Very slight haze in a pilsner gold body, fluffy head. Light cherry nose and mild malts. A bit of chorus at the start, but then there’s the fresh thyme coming up on the palate. Except for that herbal edge, it’s actually kind of tame for a farmhouse ale. But that can be exactly want I want when I’m looking for something malty and the beer list is overrun by IPAs and sours because they’re savoring the Oktoberfest beers for the weekend.

Right out the gate (er, bottle, I guess), Stone Saison gets big points for good looks and good smells. Body is a lovely pale yellow with loads of fluffy foam up top. Aroma has earthy yeast funk, rubber, and plenty of savory spices. Less of that complexity carries over into the taste. There’s some peppery spice, mild citrus notes, and bread-like malt tastes. As a whole, though, flavor is fairly delicate. That’s not bad for an easy-drinking Saison. It just could be bigger. Mouthfeel is nice, and you can’t fault this brew on how damn refreshing it is.

Do wypicia i zapomnienia.

bottle picked up at the prince of wales in the junction. pale yellow with a light haze and fair lacing; aroma of lemon salt, a touch of barnyard but quite mellow; chalky tending to soapy flavours; somewhere between subtle and dull - a novelty for stone

Very light yellow pour with a sugar and grass nose that mellows into some smooth hop flavors in the end. Bottle.

Jensen Beach, Fl - Total Wine, 12 oz bottle. Sparkling medium golden pour with an initial snow white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma has some ginger, a hint of coriander. Solid flavor, some coriander and ginger spiciness, some pear-like fruitiness. Thick, rich mouthfeel. Pretty solid.

This is apparently brewed w/ eleven herbs and spices but smells more or less like a Belgian ale w/ a heavy handed dose of coriander to me. Funny thing is that it doesn’t list coriander as an ingredient. Oh well, I never claimed to know what I was talking about. It’s slightly hazed yellow w/ a thick and very long lasting head of mixed bubbles--looks pretty appetizing to be honest. The reason I say it tastes like there’s too much coriander is because it has a strong citrus component to the nose w/ some that sort of weird vegetable-y taste. I wouldn’t call it bad so much as just a little too much all around. It is slightly sweet but dried out some by heavy carbonation and some slightly soapy bitterness in the finish. Overall, this is an OK take on a spiced Belgian ale. I could drink it again but will likely never do so.
