COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In spring 2011, Stone bought the farm, literally, taking over 19 acres of fertile Southern California soil where we now grow pristine fruits, vegetables, herbs and more for our Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens restaurants. A taste of our homespun farm-to-tableism is provided in this farmhouse ale stoked with lemon zest, plus lemon thyme and lavender straight from Stone Farms. This spring-to-summer saison is citric and herbal on the palate with a dry, peppery finish. Thanks to the infusion of fresh West Coast ingredients, this isn’t your everyday saison. It’s our saison—100% Stone. Celebrate the sunny season with an authentic taste of our farm and, with it, our commitment to quality.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained white head, with some lacing, over a very slightly hazy gold, (SRM 5) body...nose is light malts, with medium spice tones, herbal hops.....taste is light malts with toast, heavier spice note with allspice, light hints of clove, very, very peppery, with almost chili like heat, finishing lightly bitter, dry, with remaining spice......mouth feel, medium body, no alcohol, minimal astringency, quenching finishing acidity. This is an almost Saison, except for the pepper/chili notes which are almost out of control. This needs a change of spices and perhaps yeast. Is it a chile Saison? What were the brewers aiming for? Pours a mostly clear pale yellow with a medium white head...lively...nice lacing. Aroma has some herbal spice and coriander. Flavor follows suit...herbal with notable coriander flavors and thyme...not too much citrus but a creeping grassy/earthy bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and lively with a dry grassy/bitter spicy finish. Clean...I like it!

Pours pale golden with a lasting white head and some lacing. Orange and pine aroma. Taste is peppercorn, orange peel, lemon, grass and pine. Finish has an acidic burn. Decent beer but a far cry from a typical Saison.

Bottle. This is a solid saison with lots of underlying flavors that set it off a little from others in the style. Ok but no DuPont.

Tap pour in a 23 oz glass. Light golden. Lacing is solid. Aroma is not all that impressive but in the wheelhouse of a saison. Slight bitterness with an undertone of lemon and flowery hops. I feel like the brewery is restricted by the style as Stone really nails the IPA realm. Finish leaves a bit to be desired. Overall, probably smack dab in the middle of the saisons available.

Pours a soft bright lemon rind yellow with one finger of white head. Nose is …..weird, it’s like a blend of too much/many spices and mothballs or some cleaning chemical. A lightly earthy yeasty note shows as well. Flavor is pretty similar, very dry and overly spicy with some weird phenolics. Almost bandaid-y… Light bodied and dry.

Nephilium (1463) - Ohio, USA - MAY 23, 2014
Floral and herbal aroma, pours a slightly hazy light straw with a thin white head. Lemon and floral flavors blend well together, with the dryness that is typical in a saison. Light on the palate, with a touch of bitterness in the finish. Not a bad saison, and a nice lighter beer to drink as the weather turns hot.

12 ounce bottle in to tulip glass, best before 7/30/2014. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy bright gold color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, clove, black pepper, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, bread, lavender, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, and pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, clove, black pepper, lavender, wheat, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate earthy bitterness/spiciness and light tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, clove, pepper, lavender, wheat, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good robustness and complexity of pale malt, fruity/spicy yeast, and spice flavors; with a decent spice/yeast/malt flavor balance and minimal cloying flavors after the finish. Fairly intense on the spices in the taste, but not horrible. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice spiced saison style. Good complexity and robustness of pale malt, fruity/spicy yeast, and spice flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Pours a clear light amber with a foamy head. The aroma has spices, root beer, lemon among others. The taste has the spice and fruit. Very dry and extremely refreshing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
