COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In spring 2011, Stone bought the farm, literally, taking over 19 acres of fertile Southern California soil where we now grow pristine fruits, vegetables, herbs and more for our Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens restaurants. A taste of our homespun farm-to-tableism is provided in this farmhouse ale stoked with lemon zest, plus lemon thyme and lavender straight from Stone Farms. This spring-to-summer saison is citric and herbal on the palate with a dry, peppery finish. Thanks to the infusion of fresh West Coast ingredients, this isn’t your everyday saison. It’s our saison—100% Stone. Celebrate the sunny season with an authentic taste of our farm and, with it, our commitment to quality.

Poured a cloudy gold color and forms a nice head. The aroma is probably the best thing about this saison. The taste is very spicy and has a decent palate. Not the best saison available but definitely not the worst.

Clear, golden colour and a white head. Nice aroma, citrus, flowers and you get some of the herbs as well. Taste is very lively, somewhat bitter and some of the lemon sourness. Palate: soft and smooth but not very thick. I like this one.

More than 50% white head, even with a gently pour. Underneath is sparking clear dark yellow. Aromas are funky, fruity. Smells like rotten grain, moreso than most beer. Taste is dry, very drying. Bitter. Muddy. Maybe this bottle is old, but it’s not very enjoyable.

Bottle. Moderate grain and straw for the malt, herbs and lemon for the hops, barnyard for the yeast, with notes of green apple and ginger. Head is huge, frothy, slightly off-white with good lacing and is fully lasting. Color is hazy light yellow amber. Flavor starts moderately to heavily acidic, then finishes lightly to moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is on the lighter side of medium, dry with a fizzy carbonation and a ginger type bite finish. Nothing outstanding, but this Saison is perfectly balanced and a nice twist in the end.

Bottle in the Drafthouse Tower Bridge. Clear yellow amber, medium white fluffy head. Nose is fruity yeast esters, saison yeast, straw, lemon zest, herbal. Taste is quite a clean flavour, with the lemon and fruity ester flavours coming through and some nice fruit and saison yeast tanginess. Also bit of straw, grass and grain husk. Clean, crisp fruity saison without the higher complexity of something like a saison dupont.

bottle - Pours hazy straw colored with a one finger white head. It smells of yeast, spice, and citrus. The taste is similar but also with what is a fairly strong dose of hops bitterness for the style. It finishes dry and overall is alright, but I hate to say it for one of my favorite breweries, not that great to me. Average.

maekchu (2509) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JAN 7, 2015
Bottle from Sake Taniguchi (World Beer Market). Citrus and herbal nose, yeast, sweet and spicy, grass, some lemon. Clear dark gold straw color. Herb-infused grass and citrus fruit, sweet malt, some coriander, gentle pepper, and orange zest. Thin-medium body. Tasty stuff, but the herb/spice thing is a bit overdone, I think. Too much going on, in what should be a simple pleasure.

Bottle from BrewDog, Liverpool. Pours pale yellow with a medium whiter head. Aroma of spices wheat, citrus and flour. Taste is a spicy, complex taste. Wheat, herbs, citrus and fruits. Palate has a sleek and easy feeling. Overall a quiet special beer.
