COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In spring 2011, Stone bought the farm, literally, taking over 19 acres of fertile Southern California soil where we now grow pristine fruits, vegetables, herbs and more for our Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens restaurants. A taste of our homespun farm-to-tableism is provided in this farmhouse ale stoked with lemon zest, plus lemon thyme and lavender straight from Stone Farms. This spring-to-summer saison is citric and herbal on the palate with a dry, peppery finish. Thanks to the infusion of fresh West Coast ingredients, this isn’t your everyday saison. It’s our saison—100% Stone. Celebrate the sunny season with an authentic taste of our farm and, with it, our commitment to quality.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours gold with a white head. Light citrus/floral aromas. Med minus body. Flavor is earthy, malty, herb, citrus, floral. Quite not like expected. Not bad. Quite drinkable. Just a bit of an odd duck.

Bottle. Poured clear golden color with an average to large frothy white head that was lasting with good lacing. Moderate citrus, herbal aroma. Medium body with a slick dry texture and soft carbonation. Medium herbal sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where exceeded with a solid change of pace brew.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Short Pump, opened 6/20/14. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a medium sized fizzy white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of yeast, spice, candied citrus, citrus, tropical fruits, lemongrass, pale malt. The taste is herbal notes, almost medicinal, citrus, tropical fruits, yeast. Medium bodied, slight lingering spice, and that medicinal note is not very welcome.

>> Clear light golden pour, medium white foam with soapy lacing. Nose is white pepper, white grapefruit rind, big yeast and zest. Taste is dry, big potpourri, white pepper. Dry, citrus peel palate...a bit too dry gets papery and mildly astringent. Well, it’s one of those American versions of "saison" that is spiced blonde ale. Not gonna fly with saison purists.

3fourths (8017) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAY 25, 2014
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2014 Bottle. Clear gold with a short white head. Stinks of thyme / oregano, soap, sawdust, tea leaves, pepper, citrus, lemon balm. Medium-light body with pillowy carbonation, low sweetness, high bitterness and high acidity. Tastes of glue and plant matter. Crusty, harsh malt edge with equally abrasive heartburn acidity... I will never understand how these awful spiced beers garner such high scores from so many people, I guess if you can smell/taste something like what the brewer puts on the label then you award points, and more points for more powerful the smell/taste is, even if it does smell/taste like soap, thyme and envelope glue.

BMan1113VR (7858) - Los Angeles, California, USA - APR 23, 2014
Bottle. Pours with a clear, golden hued body with a moderate to slightly large white head with decent lace and retention. Aromas are floral with moderate isoamyl acetate, black pepper, clove, lavender, citrus zest, mild malt grainy-ness (wheat?), lemon balm. Flavors are herbal and grainy, mildly bitter with thyme, and black pepper, floral, mildly zesty. Lively carbonation, relatively dry. Overall yeast profile favors peppery phenols over esters, with a lot of added spice. Tasty.
