4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2014 release 12oz bottle sitting pretty in a wine glass. Golden yellow tone with a dense white head and aromatics jumping out the glass. Upon the first smell I get flash backs to Saison Du Buff which is probably the thyme and peppery yeast in play. Floral lavender, a touch of eggy sulfur and bright citrus are also present. The flavors are nice and balanced with a spicy dry finish, I really enjoyed it.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Location: 12 oz bottle from Superstar - Huntington, 11/16/14
Aroma: The nose is full of peppery and other spices with some lemon zest as well
Appearance: This one is clear and gold in color with a large, frothy, white head, and plenty of lace
Flavor: The pepper definitely dominates the flavor as well, zesty, lightly sweet, and light-mid bitter
Palate: The body is medium, it has a lively carbonation, and a long, peppery finish
I canít think of a more peppery saison (or any style of beer for that matter) that isnít described as a pepper beer. Itís really pepper-forward and pepper-finished, but the zest/rind flavors come out in the mid-palate. Not my favorite. For me, a guy who almost always loves Stone, and for whom Arrogant Bastard is he beer that made me realize stuff more flavorful than Boston Lager exists, this is a rare (near) misfire from them. (I intentionally avoided crime and punishment, so I canít speak for those.) I didnít hate it or anything, but my Stone expectations are higher than this.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
From a bottle...I love Stone but this isn't one of their best efforts...extremely over-spiced. Aroma is indistinguishable. Taste is an abundance of pepper, nothing else comes through; the spice remains on the palate. A decent "beer" just not a good saison.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draught at Harryís Hofbrau. I love Stone....and I love Saison.....but this does not work well together. Spice, fruit, a little funk and pepper do not marry well. Hazy yellow with full white head. Flavor ends with a hop kick that does not really work for this, but lots of spice and pepper beyond that.

2.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
The "strange" or should I say "unique" after taste seems easy to explain although Iím sure the reasons are more complicated. This is what happens when hops overpowers a traditional, delicate flavor base like saison. A traditional spice blend becomes something completely different in the presence of too much bitterness. It tastes medicinal, way out of balance and, in my opinion, is a failure.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from bottle.
Clear, golden yellow with a 3-finger off-white head and very good lacing.
Aroma of orange, lemon, lavender, and malt.
Taste of lemon, lavender, spices (mainly cloves, black pepper and cardamon), grass, orange, malt and floral hops. Finishes with a spicy, cloves and pepper, bite.
Medium body medium/high carbonization.
Plenty of flavor in this one, but it is a bit spicy for a saison.

Draft. From notes. Spicy with Belgian yeast and clove. Some light hints of citrus in there too. Pretty good.
