3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark brown but looks near black as its filled the glass. A light tan colored head that swirls easily into a thick topping that leaves a spotty lacing. Not a huge aroma. A fresh clean pepper and slight hop smell. A thick creamy feel with a nice chocolate taste upfront. A big spicy pepper heat comes in with a bang that really stays around well after the sip. As it warms and I get the second pour the chocolate smoothness masks the heat slightly. When having a Smoked Porter variant these are the flavors I’m looking for. Good stuff.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours clear, but dark ruby-brown color with a large, sudsy, light taupe head. Peat smoke-dominant nose. The sweetness from the malt, broadens the smoke just enough to be convincing that I’m not smelling peat embers. The mouthfeel is pleasant and a little heavier than that of a usual porter. Also, quite a bit of capcasin heat is noted on the tongue and lingering on the rear of the palate. Tons of fresh chilis appears and endures following some sweet, roasted malt up front. Finishes with some smoke and mild bitterness.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice brown color with off-white head. Aroma is difficult because I have a cold, but I get smoke. Starts roasty sweet with a touch of smokiness the chipotle kicks in and heats the back of the throat, though not too much. Quite tolerable..

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, aged two-three years. Thin chocolate nose, wine-like, with some pepper notes. Thick dark brown, 2-cm. tan head, good lace. Light crushed berries, mild creamy chocolate, gentle peppery tingle, and just a little smoke. Medium body. Peppers, at this stage, are not really so apparent until late mid palate and final, and mostly as a sensation rather than flavor.

Had this many times. Pours a dark brown with small head and lace. Aroma and flavors of sweet malts and southwest peppers. A good blend and balance without too much pepper or sweetness. Good fresh or with some age.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Happy to have had this one, my vote between the Vanilla and this.... This, by a football field.
Pours black with a solid quilt of tan foam and leaves nice billowed lace. Smell carries the smoke and chipotle peppers very, very well. Makes me want a mission style burrito from my local Neato Burrito with a healthy helping of pork. Taste is a quality merge of smoke, chipotle, porter and leather - a really tasty treat. Medium bodied with reserved carbonation and semi dry finish. Really nice beer. Certainly my fav of the two.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
In short: A roasted and lightly smoked porter with a medium presence of burning hot spiciness. Good for what it is but not my type of beer.
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed a few months after purchase.
The look: Very dark clear burgundy (very near black) body topped by a medium dense beige head with medium retention.
In long: Nose is slightly smoky, moderately spicy, chocolaty, notes of vanilla. As the beer warms up the beer aroma develops meaty notes (smoked meat). Taste has a strong roast presence, mild smoke sensation, burnt chocolate cake, some dark fruits, hot spiciness. At first the beer doesn’t feel very spicy but the hot peppers make a strong come back in the after-taste with a lasting burning sensation in the throat. Minimal sweetness sensation is hidden by the hot spiciness. Full body, ample carbonation, polished clean mouthfeel. It is Stone, this is a well made beer, I just don’t cake for hot spices in my dark ales, I always underrate beers like this one, not my thing. Every time I buy a spicy beer I am disappointed but I keep buying them anyway, there’s really a lesson to be learned here about not learning your lesson.
