COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stone Smoked Porter w/ Chipotle Peppers is a thing of spicy glory, with the just-right heat of smoked jalapeŮos (aka chipotles) that combines beautifully with the beerís peat-smoked malt and roasty character. The idea came about in 2006 when Merchandise Manager Chris Carroll suggested we make a special "South of the Border Stone Smoked Porter" for Cinco de Mayo that year. One sip, and we were hooked!

Pours dark brown, black in the glass, with a medium wheat-colored head, excellent retention, very fine lacing. Smoke, coffee, and toast aromas, with hints of chili, and grass. Medium body, velvety smooth. Mild to medium initial sweetness, mild to medium bitter finish with an even longer lingering chipotle spiciness that gets slowly hotter as you drink. Well balanced. Nothing is overdone, it all comes together beautifully. Easily the best chili beer Iíve had.

22 oz bottle- Pours black with red highlights in the light and a one finger light tan head that reduces leaving a blanket. Aroma is dark roasted malts, smoke, spicy finish that could be more pronounced (to be fair to the beer there could never be enough chipotle in the aroma or taste for me personally). Taste is nice and smoky, strong roasted malts, mellow heat burn that slowly builds with each sip, dry fair amount of bitterness that really balances out the malt. Much better than the smoked porter with vanilla beans which was way too sweet for me, very much enjoyed this one.

A brown body with a tan head, that had nice retention. Some chocolate and roasted malts in the aroma a nice presence of chipotle and a bit of peat. Flavor had good balance between dark chocolate and roasted coffee malts. Chipotle came through in the finish, very tasty. Smoke was too mild. Easy to drink and a smooth body.

Really needs more heat. This is a good porter, light on the smoke with some tingly chipolte in the finish. I think I prefer the original though.

Poured from 22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with amber tint and tan head. Roasted malt, smoky aroma with some pepper. Flavor is roasted malt with some smokiness and some cocoa. Nice smoky chipotle pepper flavor in finish. Nice spicy pepper heat in finish. The heat lingers. Really nice . Usually when I get a beer with pepper in it Iím disappointed with the heat but Stone delivered with this one.

Draft at Roasthouse Pub in Frederick, MD. Served in a snifter glass, deep dark brown with tan head. Aroma of smoke, hot pepper, chocolate and a earthy note. Taste adds notes of coffee, some nuttiness, mildest peppery burn and earthy hop bitterness. Light-medium body, low-moderate carbonation, oily, soft with roasty peppery finish. Very nice peppery porter.

So the best by date stamp seems to be smeared off a bit. But as I taste and smell this, Iím thinking this is okay. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown around the edges with a blacker looking body the further I look towards the center. There was some nice somewhat sticky lacing that ends up spider webbing a bit. The smell didnít start as expected, perhaps I had it a bit too cold. Anyways, it started off with a dark roasty chocolate with a deep smokiness to it. It took at least a good minute to warm up to let the chipotle to come out. The taste was roasty, slightly sweet, slightly smoky and with a pop of heat from the chipotle to gracefully touch my taste buds with a fantastic complexity. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body. I want to drink it, but I also find myself sipping it a bit - sessionable, uh...hmmm...probably not, it seems thereís too much going on and I want to savor for as long as I can. The aftertaste is basically smoky heat leading towards a really nice sharp heat bite of a finish that comes across roasty and smooth. The carbonation is done extremely well for the style and for me. Overall, big wow from me. Looks as if the date didnít matter, hahaha, jokeís on the person who tried to smear it off.

Dark, coffee color with a slightly frothy, off-white head. The lacing on the glass is light and wet. Roasted smoke with a slight spice until youíve had a few sips. Then, the heat starts in the back of your throat. A light burn, nothing too crazy, and just enough to let you know that the chipotle are there. After a full bomber, the heat is consistent for an extended period, and mildly pleasant. There is nothing extreme about this, just really nice in all aspects. Nice smoky flavor and a nice spice in an excellent porter. Definitely a long, dark finish with this brew!

When it comes to a hot pepper infused beers I like the heat midway through the flavors. Dark full bodied porter with smoked coffee malts and bitterness wrap around the essence of Chipotle peppers. Another well engineered beer from Stone. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
