5th August 2011
GBBF. Cask. Opaque brown beer. Small tan head. Mild dark malt. Minerals. Trace of chocolate. Big chilli burn starts in the mid and keeps going. Bearable! But this could have been good if they had backed of on the chilli a bit. And then a bit more!

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Churchkey. This one had lots and lots of chipotle, not subtle at all, but certainly a genuine flavor that complements the smoke.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: The pour is pretty much black in color, maybe just really dark brown, with a finger of tan head.
S: I get some almost salty notes from the beer, but plenty of earthiness. The peppers seem to enhance the smokiness of the beer, but not really overwhelm it. Plenty of roast to go with it along with some bitter dark chocolate.
T: A pretty similar flavor in relation to the nose. Lots of earthy tones to go with the smoke, which actually seems more rounded and mellow than usual. Very roasty with some of the usual saltiness of smoked beers, and a nice touch of bitterness and chocolate.
M: The body is maybe a bit on the light side for what I recall the regular smoked porter having, but still sufficient. The carbonation is medium.
D: Not always a big chile or smoked beer fan, but Stone has done well with this one. Not overbearing in any fashion, and actually pretty enjoyable.
