COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stone Smoked Porter w/ Chipotle Peppers is a thing of spicy glory, with the just-right heat of smoked jalapeños (aka chipotles) that combines beautifully with the beer’s peat-smoked malt and roasty character. The idea came about in 2006 when Merchandise Manager Chris Carroll suggested we make a special "South of the Border Stone Smoked Porter" for Cinco de Mayo that year. One sip, and we were hooked!

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, smoke, light roast, and just a touch of pepper heat that I may not have even noticed if not for the power of suggestion. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is some is some sporadic thin webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate and a touch of caramel. The finish has moderate smoke and light roast. The heat from the peppers is very light and really only tickles the back of the throat. There’s a touch of heat that lightly lingers on the tongue after a few drinks. It?s medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, it?s not all that different from the regular Smoked Porter as the pepper flavors are very light.

Poured from bottle. Black body with a moderate off white head. Smells of charred wood, malt and pepper. Burnt oak, smoke and pepper taste. Peppers really came through on the aftertaste, followed by the heat. Well balanced and enjoyable.

I thought my dad would like this one, him not being a huge beer drinker but getting interested in the thing. Welp. It was way too spicy for his palate, so even though I thought it was pretty fine I’m going to dock it a point in honor of my jerkbag father and his not-yet-destroyed-by-Ghostface-Killer palate.

Bottle. The look is brownish, tannish head, and clear. The smell is smoke, pepper, nice, malts, good combo, leather, and veggie. The taste is pepper, touch of heat, malt, and smoke.

P: Dark black non transparent body with a dollop of tan bubbly head that quickly diminishes to a choppy wake. S: The first whiff reminds me of opening a paint can. The smoke is light and smells real. The chipotle pepper is dominate but blends well with the bitter-sweet chocolate. Mesquite wood chips, breakfast blend coffee and hints of cardboard. T/M: Taste follows the nose but really brings the peppery bite that I expected. The heat presence is timid and similar to roasting peppers where you get more of the pepper flavor than the hotness. Full body that is almost chewy and spicy carbonation. While swirling it in your mouth the heat gets more aggressive. O: Hands down one of the best smoked beers I’ve ever had. The smoke is natural and not overpowering of the other flavors. The heat and flavor from the peppers really makes this a terrific treat. I love swishing it around and letting the heat build.

Tasting at Red White & Bleu. Pours deep brown with small tan head. Tons of pepper spice here, from the nose through the body and into the aftertaste. Roasted chocolate still present. This is not a "hint of spice" brew here, but a full-blown chili-infused beer.

I’m sure that this porter would be lovely if not for the peppers. Too peppery, too pungent, too hot. Maybe as a marinade it works great, but not for a beer.
