3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Insert perfunctory "I love the base beer" comment here. Right off the bat this one impressed more than the vanilla. Something about this particular additional ingredient just seems to make sense to my taste buds more than vanilla, especially given the smokiness of the chipotle itself. So this is really just an enhancement and modification of the already yummy qualities. Heat probably could have been turned up just a scootch for me but I dug it overall.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours slightly translucent dark brown body with reddish hues. Thin light tan head. Roasted malt and cocoa aroma with a touch of smoke. Taste is bitter chocolate, some burned coffee. Charred oak and a hint of tobacco. Dry finish; the pepper really comes through on the back end. Heat is not overpowering, but enough to take notice. Nice addition of spiciness. Enjoyable with good complexity.

Pours pitch black with a one finger beige head. Peppery aroma with just a hint of smoke. Flavour wise it starts of with notes of cocoa, charred wood, some fruitiness from the pepper and the end is spicy. Alright mouthfeel with good amount of carbonation.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
I’ve enjoyed a lot of chilli beers before and usually the heat is best when mixed with food but here the Chipotle is subtle enough for just quaffing. I’ll pair with fajitas shortly.
