Stone Smoked Porter w/ Chipotle Peppers is a thing of spicy glory, with the just-right heat of smoked jalapeńos (aka chipotles) that combines beautifully with the beer’s peat-smoked malt and roasty character. The idea came about in 2006 when Merchandise Manager Chris Carroll suggested we make a special "South of the Border Stone Smoked Porter" for Cinco de Mayo that year. One sip, and we were hooked!

First off, I am a fan of the basic Stone Smoked Porter. I like this beer too. I don’t get a lot of heat from the chipotles, but chipotle is a smoky pepper. So this is kind of a smoky, smoked beer. That said, I really enjoyed it. Nice chocolate aroma with some light smoke. Taste is sweet with a bitter finish. Go Stone!!!

22oz bottle from BD Camden, London. It pours a deep dark brown color with medium beige head. Aroma is big on roasty notes, malts, wood, green peppers, cocoa powder, light vanilla. Taste has more astringent bitterness, green peppers, mocha, vanilla, wood and ashes. Medium to full bodied with good carbonation. Overall, interesting and tasty

Aroma is smoky and peppery while the pour is a thick black color with a thin off white brownish head. Flavor is similar to a nice coffee porter with a hint of spiciness. delicious!

APPEARANCE - looks really dark to start, but it’s surprisingly light when held to the light. NOSE - initially chili pepper. Resolves to maltiness. FLAVOR - As the beer warms the chili peppers really come through. Great finish warm or cold. NOTES - perhaps the best chili pepper beer that I’ve tried.

Mole aroma... Smoky chipotle and suggestions of chocolate. Deep brown color, small beige head. Malt syrup, slightly sweet up front, moves toward some chipotle pepper, smoke, and a touch of chocolate. Even, moderate chili heat in the back of the throat. Medium body. When frsh, this treatment of the Atone Smoked Porter was AMAZING. It?s still good, but the pepper is definitely fading fast both in flavor and heat. Arguably more drinkable now, but I really love chipotle and this was the beat one thus far.

Bottle shared@Fermentoren, Copenhagen (09/04/2015) - dark brown pour with beige head. Roasted malty aroma and taste, some chocolate, toffeish, some warming chilli and pepper spicy bite with some smokey nuances on the palate. Interesting.

Bottle @ WWT IV, small sample. Slight hazy light brown color, short frothy head. Aroma has bit light toffee notes, bell pepper and chipotle, slight smoked. Bit sweet in taste, slight roast. Soft peppery finish. Base beer hardly recognizable and seems to be quite thin, which is not what I remember of it.

Bottle @ WWT. Aroma is chocolate, roast, liquorice, pepper, smoke and malt. Flavour is choclate and liquorice at first, then instantly chipotle pepper burn, then some caramel, then more chipotle. Nice.

Bottle @ WWT IV, courtesy of me, thnx to bytemesis for sending me this. Pours a dark brown beer with a medium sized, off white head on top. Aroma is slight roasty, peppery, slight smokey. Flavor is mildly sweet with a very mild pepper sensation in the back end. The base beer is a bit faded by the peppers, but unfortunately the peppers are very mild as well. Still decent, but expected much better.

Bottle at WWT tasting. Dark reddish brown with small off white head. Smoke, old coffee, some moldy cocoa beans, chili burn in the finish. Medium bodied. I’m not a big fan of smoked beers and this is no exception.
