I thought my dad would like this one, him not being a huge beer drinker but getting interested in the thing. Welp. It was way too spicy for his palate, so even though I thought it was pretty fine Iím going to dock it a point in honor of my jerkbag father and his not-yet-destroyed-by-Ghostface-Killer palate.

Happy to have had this one, my vote between the Vanilla and this.... This, by a football field.
Pours black with a solid quilt of tan foam and leaves nice billowed lace. Smell carries the smoke and chipotle peppers very, very well. Makes me want a mission style burrito from my local Neato Burrito with a healthy helping of pork. Taste is a quality merge of smoke, chipotle, porter and leather - a really tasty treat. Medium bodied with reserved carbonation and semi dry finish. Really nice beer. Certainly my fav of the two.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
In short: A roasted and lightly smoked porter with a medium presence of burning hot spiciness. Good for what it is but not my type of beer.
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed a few months after purchase.
The look: Very dark clear burgundy (very near black) body topped by a medium dense beige head with medium retention.
In long: Nose is slightly smoky, moderately spicy, chocolaty, notes of vanilla. As the beer warms up the beer aroma develops meaty notes (smoked meat). Taste has a strong roast presence, mild smoke sensation, burnt chocolate cake, some dark fruits, hot spiciness. At first the beer doesnít feel very spicy but the hot peppers make a strong come back in the after-taste with a lasting burning sensation in the throat. Minimal sweetness sensation is hidden by the hot spiciness. Full body, ample carbonation, polished clean mouthfeel. It is Stone, this is a well made beer, I just donít cake for hot spices in my dark ales, I always underrate beers like this one, not my thing. Every time I buy a spicy beer I am disappointed but I keep buying them anyway, thereís really a lesson to be learned here about not learning your lesson.

12oz bottle picked up at Wilburs in CO
Dark brown with a medium sized tan head and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, dried chocolate and green peppers. Flavors are roasty, chocolate and finished with hot peppers in the back of the throat
Nice, just the right amount of heat

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Decent beer, though I donít sense much of a chipotle flavor. Aroma was nice. Smoky with notes of roasted malt and hints of pepper. Pour was a beautiful dark brown with a pillowy 2 finger tan head. Taste was nice and smoky. Smoke and dark malt are the only flavors detectable but as it warms there is a lingering slight spice burn on the back of the throat. You have to search for it, but itís definitely there. Slightly chocolately. Good carbonation.

August 2012. 22 oz. bottle. Black with a tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and a bot of smoke. The chipotle adds a small bite, but nothing overwhelming.

Pick up both the vanilla and chipotle when they were fresh. I should have liked this since im not a fan of strong pepper or vanilla and this wasnt strong with either but it just didnt do it for me. Had a little smoke and a litte chipotle but overall lacked flavor. Body was too light and it was a little blah.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma: Peppers, chocolate, earthy
Appearance: Pitch black with off-white head
Taste: Peppers, chocolate, dark malts, earthy, smoky bitterness
Palate: Medium body, nice initial spiceness and finish. Spice is subdued, but still present and well integrated into the beer. Fair amount of bitterness that sticks around well past the finish.
Overall: Really tasty, nicely integrated pepper spice. Iíve had spicier, and more flavorful, but in terms of overall balance and integration for a pepper beer best Iíve had thus far.

3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not much nose, looks great: jet black with nice mocha head. Creamy, not watery. Hint of spice from the chipotle peppers, some smoked flavor as well, drinks easy.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a frothy beige head. Aroma is peppers, smoke, coffee. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter, with a small pleasant burn from the chipotles. Finish is roasted and slightly spicy. Medium body, well carbonated. Iím surprised at how good this is, and it actually makes for a good warm-weather beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, smoke, light roast, and just a touch of pepper heat that I may not have even noticed if not for the power of suggestion. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is some is some sporadic thin webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate and a touch of caramel. The finish has moderate smoke and light roast. The heat from the peppers is very light and really only tickles the back of the throat. Thereís a touch of heat that lightly lingers on the tongue after a few drinks. It?s medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, it?s not all that different from the regular Smoked Porter as the pepper flavors are very light.
