4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours opaque deep brown with two fingers of loose ivory head, excellent retention and lacing. (5/5) Nose is roasty malts, coffee and chocolate, mild vanilla, very slight smoke. (8/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate bitter. (8/10) Full body, moderate to low carbonation, off dry finish. (4/5)
Porters arenít generally my favourites, but this one is quite good. The vanilla is quite restrained, manifesting only towards the end, as the bottle warms. The sweetness is also quite well-behaved, and the lingering bitter finish works well with the mild vanilla. (16/20)

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Yummy having Stone in Alberta. Favourites like IPA $4 off a 6-pack and new treats like this. Nice brown porter with strong malt and a noticeable smooth Mexican vanilla note running throughout. Very solid. Raosty and tasty.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark brown with a tan head. Light vanilla aroma. Restrained level of smoke flavor gives way to roasted malt bitterness. Again, more vanilla on the palate. Somewhat bitter finish, but not unpleasantly so. Nice, complex beer that has a lot going on but integrates well.

Nice deep dark brown color, small head. Very light vanilla coffee nose. Espresso, vanilla, nutmeg taste. Very refreshing. Lingers long and has a bitter kick in the end! Nice

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Grumbler purchase from Breeze-IN, Juneau AK.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown close to black color with a slim white one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. A light slim stringy lacing clings to the sides of the glass.
The smell started off with a fairly big roasty and smoky coffee and a slight cocoa. One really has to let it warm to get the vanilla, itís barely there.
The taste was mainly roasty with a nice sweet to balance. A dry semi - sweet yet roasty aftertaste diminishes and leads to the same finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sipping to almost sessionable quality about it. The carbonation seemed to be fairly subdued but still good for the style.
Overall, itís a good smoked Porter though I was hoping for more vanilla, Iím pretty sure Iíd have it again.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The raw dark umber liquid seems to flow from the bottle almost without reflecting the light, filling the glass with a deep, rich color and a fat, soft head. The chocolate aroma is really unexpected and a comfortable, mellow smoke comes up from underneath it, wafting through my senses like a distant lilac on a summer breeze. Perfect. Not overwhelming at all.
The initial flavor is smoky. Not harsh, not bad, but absolutely dominant. The next mouthful is a wave of surprise. It slides in over my lips and the smoke on my tongue gives itself with apparent abandon to the ambrosial combination of chocolate and vanilla. The taste is sweet in the mouth, bitter only after the swallow and leaves my mouth slightly dry, but wanting to refresh...another sip? Why the hell not?
The tan head is a perfect, silky foam touching on my lips as I drink, although it does eventually say goodbye, leaving a thin coating on the surface and a big lacing on the glass. The medium body is a little more carbed than I like, but only a touch of a difference would do it for me.
This is nicely done, and although itís not my favorite from Stone, but definitely a good solid beer, and Iím already looking forward to the next time!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice porter. Vanilla adds a little depth to the porter but detracts slightly from the smokiness, not a bad thing just a thing. Heavy mouthfeel adds a chewiness to it. Cold days like the day I'm partaking this are a nice time to enjoy a quality vanilla porter with a lil smokiness to it.

Bottle to glass. Older. Enjoy by 3/25/14. Aroma is dry, smoky, light toasted malts, touch of vanilla. Flavor has a bit more vanilla, medium toasted malts, smoky finish, dry. Tasty, but definitely better fresh.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured into a balloon glass. Appearance of the darkest brown imaginable, nearly black. Aroma and taste of roasted malts, faint chocolate, and vanilla. Slightly watery in that good porter way, but a little too watery for me. Overall good but not amazing.
