3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear, dark brown, near black pour with a 2 finger, creamy beige head that fades to a thick skim then has excellent retention and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is toast, chocolate, nutty notes, nice sharp and smooth vanilla notes, toast, dark caramel, smoke and a hint of earthy wood. Flavor is smoke, roasted nuts and vanilla liqueur up front, then roast, a little char, earth, light Englishy fruity esters, bittersweet chocolate, light resinous hops and mineral notes to the finish. Palate is pretty light bodied, creamy to slightly watery on entry, medium strength, blanketing and sharp carbonation, dry minerally crisp and slightly chalky finish. Really good stuff overall, but dry and mineral are not great palate finishing descriptors for this flavor profile, Iím not saying I need some syrupy gloop for 10x the price, but a little more body and less carbonation would be nice. The flavor starts off great, but the carbonation and seemingly over heavy mineral content blow it away pretty quickly. Still, if this were available at a better price (it was a good price for a bomber, but still crappy $/oz. ratio), I would probably drink a ton of this.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours brown with big off-white head, settles in minutes with minimal lace. Aroma is smoky, roasted, vanilla. Flavor is vanilla, with a smoky, roasted, chocolate finish. Vanilla is mildly bitter, raw and floral, can tell it is bean, not extract. Mildly bitter aftertaste. Soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nicely balanced smoke and vanilla play. No where near as dominating as I expect from stone. I really want sine aged cheddar with this.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear dark brown. Medium to large creamy beige head, lasting with lace.. Aroma is roast, lightly smoked, vanilla, chocolate. A little something that seems off..not sure, maybe it was the plane trip it took. Lighter Medium body. Somewhat creamy. Vanilla is right there up front, followed by roast, chocolate. Finish finds vanilla again, followed by a quite a bit of earthy, woody, smokey bitterness, with fair dryness. Not really into it..

22oz bottle from Brewmasterís in Wilson. Dark brown pour (reddish tones when put against light) muddy clarity with mostly diminishing caramel head. Fair lacing. Brewed coffee, light vanilla, some chocolate and alot of heavy roasted malt aroma. I was excited to identify all the scents coming out of this beer. Moderate roasted malt & chocolate on the initial taste with a smokey vanilla & coffee finish. I thought this was a solid beer that I will buy again in the future.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Antenna America, served in a snifter. It pours a nutty brown thatís black in the glass with a decent light beige head & lacing. Smooth vanilla & soft chocolate aroma. I am not getting much smoke in the aroma... Medium thin body with the taste being chocolate, light coffee, hints of smoke but just too much vanilla. Soft velvety bitter dark chocolate, potent vanilla beans & possibly hints of smoke with a touch of coffee in the finish. Am not feeling it, the vanilla is natural according to the label but I feel almost like it is an extract... I find the beer becomes more acidic as I drink it with the vanilla getting cloying & somewhat syrupy. The nose is great as is the aftertaste real smooth vanilla but for me the taste just doesnít come together. Letís give this a go in a half-pint glass and see what happens: still lots of vanilla in the nose but a fruitier rawer smell with the same soft chocolate in the background. The body seems fuller, velvety smooth mouthfeel more satisfying taste the vanilla isnít so in your face overpowering itís better balanced by the chocolate notes with more of a bitter dark chocolate think 70% cacao or more feel. Am still not really a fan but I can see how the ratings on this one are so polarizing, do NOT drink this in a snifter the vanilla is just way too much. In a snifter Iíd give this a 3.2 or less in a pint itís 3.5-3.7 for me.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a bomber. Pours a hazy dark copper, with a moderate tan head that persists and leaves good lacing. Nose is dark malt and vanilla. Taste is vanilla and malt up front, finishing with a pleasant hop bitterness. Not too hoppy-an excellent porter overall.
