3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pour is dark brown with a medium tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is faint - vanilla extract, cocoa, smoke. Flavor has a lot more smoke coming through with notes of bittersweet chocolate, peat, vanilla, and roasted grain. Thin body.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
$7 bomber poured into all that was clean, a shaker pint.
Appearance: Pours about a perfectly clear ruby black sort of color. Really puffy sand colored head that sticks around. Plenty of lacing.
Smell: Vanilla is obviously there. Coffee. A hint of chocolate. A bit of that smoke as well, though itís not as smokey as I thought it might be.
Taste: Mild, yet still packing some awesome flavor. Itís about exactly how I picture a porter as opposed to a stout -- a bit lighter on flavor with a less heavy body (this is about medium). Vanilla on the front, smokey roast on the middle, with a bit of a more pronounced coffee finish. Reasonably complex and extremely easy drinking. Smoke sort of flavor lingers afterwards. Slightly bitter aftertaste as a whole. The smoke isnít huge in this porter, but it definitely works very well with that vanilla flavor. Carbonation is slightly prickly, Iíd say itís moderately carbonated.
This beer just works for me. It has a nearly ideal look for the style, and the smell and taste, while muted (like I supposed they should be in a porter, in my eyes), is fantastic. The smoke and vanilla work with the roast characteristics in just about perfect harmony. A fabulous beer that I personally believe is getting the shaft with a "mere" 88 rating on this site.
Straight 4.25 rating with a 4.5 overall because itís a fabulous choice when Iím looking for a legitimate PORTER. Not one thatís labelled as such and is actually a stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Ron. I love Stone and their beers always seem well made with a purpose. This one is a nice combo of vanilla, mostly vanilla, with a hint of smoke to balance the sweet. It works. The appearance is dark and clear with auburn highlights. Nose is chocolate, vanilla, roasted notes. The mouthfeel starts smooth and silky and ends a bit dry and hoppy, but in a subdued way. This is a very well put together beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark black with a tan head. This had a light smokiness and the vanilla really impressed me. It tasted like fresh vanilla beans with dark chocolate. This is a great beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Aroma of coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. Relatively mild aroma, not real smokey. Dark brown in color, thin tan head. Medium sweet taste. Medium body, somewhat smokey finish but also quite smooth from the vanilla. Overall very good.

Reddish brown pour, smoked flavor and aroma complimented by vanilla. Well blended flavors in this porter by Stone.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
650ml bottle into a shaker glass; served cold.
Aroma: TONS of vanilla, and an equal amount of meaty smoke. Charcoal and ice cream.
Appearance: This beer has a clear, dark, blood-red/ruby body with a thin light tan cap. This beer leaves behind a nice, moderate lacing.
Taste: This beerís arrival is hearty and smokey. This beer has flavors reminiscent of fat burning off a steak on a charcoal fire, and also a moderate amount of creamy vanilla. This beer is lightly bitter.
Palate: This beer has a medium+ body with a high amount of prickly carbonation. This beerís finish is clean, long, and ends on bitter chocolate flavors.
Overall: A great beer! The flavor contrast is excellent; this beer leans more towards being a smokey, meaty beer with a layer of vanilla than an equally smokey and sweet beer. Quite delicious!

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pretty dissapointed with this. Not bad but not great either. I had high hopes but this just falls short. Not the complexity I would of hoped for, little smokiness and the vanilla doesnít work as well as it could. By no means a bad beer but certainly not exceptional.

A- Canned meat, smoke, roasty.
A- Dark color, black liquid, tan head.
T- Smoky, roasty, slightly bitter, meaty.
P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, astringent finish.
O- The was a huge let down for me. I was hoping for a nice porter, as I love porters, with some vanilla features. I tasted almost no vanilla and it felt like I was drinking liquid spam. This was hands down one of the least enjoyable beers I have had in some time. I canít imagine the regular smoked porter without vanilla. Kudos to those that can drink and even enjoy this.
