4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A - Pours a dark brown-black with a finger of frothy khaki colored head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of roasted chocolate malts, smoke, and vanilla, with a bit of lactose sweetness and some light coffee.
T - Starts off with a mix of roasted chocolate malts with vanilla and a bit of smoke. Through the middle, the smoke and vanilla flavors get stronger with a touch of coffee and lactose. The finish is a mix of roasted chocolate, vanilla, and smoke.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a smokey and sweet finish.
D - Very drinkable. The vanilla really accentuates the smoke and chocolate flavors nicely. Excellent balance.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Acquired this in a trade. Enjoyed at fridge temp in a Hill Farmstead Glass.
A - Dark brown on the pour, small head that fades fast.
S - Slight campfire scent, oakiness and light vanilla scent but hard to pick out. Smoke sort of overpowers everything else.
T - Up front light malts, sort of oaky but not too strong. Very drinkable. Finish is very big vanilla taste. Impressive finish though.
M - 25% carbonation on the mouth swish. Medium body. Sweet dry finish.
O - I like this more than expected. itís pretty drinkable and the 12 ounce bottle makes getting through it very easy.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Tan conglomerate head with excellent retention recedes and pancakes leaving sheet lacing. Sweet vanilla aromas. Soft with sweet vanilla upfront turning to smoke before the lasting bitter espresso finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Fairly standard looking as porters go; dark coffee brown with a light tan head. The vanilla is right up front in the aroma, and so is the smokey malt. The flavor is a hearty and malty, and the vanilla is a slight presence. Not big and certainly not overwhelming, and thatís good. These beers with ancillary flavors sometimes overdo it. Stone gets it right with this one.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz. bottle poured to a czech-pils glass at Lunar Brewing Co. showing a ruby highlighted brown tone, with a tan, rocky head, and etched, doily-like lacing sprayed on the glass. The aroma was dry roasted, smoky, cocoa, vanilla, but a hint of cardboard on the back end. The flavor offered a more limited amount of vanilla and lingering, earthy hop bitterness. Please tell me that it was tannins, or the hints of some charred cask conditioning, but the resulting combination of dry roast & old/damp corrugated notes that was evident to me was not that favorable imo. Drinkable, but....

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Mahogany pour with a latte head. Aroma was muted and semi sweet. Flavor shows the vanilla but it is muted. Wish this was pure vanilla extract or vanilla bean. Instead, itís artificial. Bit of smoke and cocoa. Not as chewy as Iíd like. Meh.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Carrboro Beverage Co. Pours a dark garnet brown with one finger of tan head. Nose is kind of comical, super vanilla dominant with a light roasty/smoky grain character. Like one and a half dimensions. Flavor is on the verge of astringent vanilla with a light roast and medicinal character. Medium body with a light carbonation and watery feel. Not liking what vanilla does to stuff. ..

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice, but would improve with a less watery palette and a stronger vanilla flavor.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours dark brown color with tan head. Aroma of lightly smoked, roasted malts with vanilla. Sweet vanilla and milk chcolate with roasted malts and a hint of smoke. I donít think the vanilla and smoke malts are a good combination. Medium body with moderate carbonation. I really enjoyed the regular smoked porter. This one not so much.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown with crimson hues, light sudsy cream head. Sweet vanilla overwhelms the nose. Flavor is similar, some Cadbury chocolate, more vanilla. Not a big fan.
