On tap at Toronado San Diego. Very dark beer with a sticky off white head. Nose of overpowering vanilla extract. I think the vanilla completely overpowers this smoked porter. It is the very dominate flavor, with some smokey notes coming out in the finish as it warms. The vanilla did not compliment this beer. They should have just made a vanilla porter.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark cola brown with a small tan that has head decent retention and leaves lots of small spots of lacing on the glass. The aroma is vanilla. Lots of sweet vanilla and a bit of coffee and cocoa. The initial taste is sweet with a lot of vanilla, a bit of coffee, a little bit of chocolate, and more vanilla. Finish has lingering vanilla. Medium body. Low carbonation. Vanilla just overpowers everything here and comes off as way too sweet. Disappointing.

Pitch black with a heavy beige head. Amazing nose with gorgeous interplay of the smoke and vanilla. Full bodied with a deeply complex palate. The vanilla sweetness takes away some of the austerity of the standard version of this beer, leaving appealing balanced flavors almost like milk chocolate and a pillowy soft mouthfeel.

Strong vanilla aroma. Starts off like a porter finishes with an awesome vanilla taste of course. You know the vanillas aren’t masking off-flavors like most other vanilla beers!

Smells of vanilla and caramel and roasted malt. Pours dark brown with a tan head with good lacing. Tastes of vanilla caramel and smoke with a touch of hop in the back end. Mouthfeel in nice and creamy with a medium to light carbonation. Overall this beer was awesome, it had a great smell and blend of flavors. I’ll need to try the original smoked porter now.

Deep, deep ruby red/black with a one-finger brown head that left very nice lattice down the side of the glass. Smoky malt aromas as expected, also a hint of coffee, caramel and hops and modest, not overpowering, vanilla notes. Vanilla presence complemented the nice coffee and chocolate flavors most evident on the tongue, and the smokiness lingered in the aftertaste. Full bodied, richer than most porters. Not quite the gimmick that I felt the chipotle was - this was much more pleasant.

served in a tulip at 45 degrees. pour was black, a tad darker than cola. about a 1/2 inch of head. vanilla was very apparent, over taking the porter itself. started out a bit thick on the vanilla but as it warmed it became a bit more subtle. hides the smoke, but still sweet and roasted. moderate carbonation, decent body. some chew but light and easy. i did not care for this as much as the chipotle, i felt it was a bit rougher around the edges.

12oz bottle. Pours black with a small creamy beige head. Aroma is roasted coffee with just a very subtle hint of vanilla. Flavor is very strong roasted malt and coffee flavor. The vanilla comes out mostly in the finish. Full bodied mouthfeel. A nice take on an already good beer.
