3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Samís in Durham. Props for the small bottle and cheap price point. That said, this beer is just okay. Pours dark brown with thin but creamy tan head. Nose is lightly smoky and malty at first, with the vanilla coming out more and more as I drink it. Same goes for the taste. For the first few sips, it just seemed like a mellower version of the Smoked Porter, but then the vanilla sweetness really started to assert itself.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared 12 oz bottle with sherm1016...thanks! Just finished the smoked porter with the chipotle...this one tastes like root beer (sweet / vanilla) compared to that one. The vanilla does offset the smoke and then some....Iíll pick the vanilla over the chipotle but itís close...

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle purchased at Binnyís Lakeview, split with dwm1034. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is vanilla, ashy. Medium on the palate with light carbonation. Flavor is sweet, vanilla, chocolate, a little smokey, root beer(?), with a light smokey finish. The vanilla is pretty dominant in this, with the smoke taking a backseat. I think I like the chipotle better than the vanilla, but itís a pretty close race.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, beige, well retained head, with some lacing, over a clear brown (SRM 30) body.....nose is vanilla, smoke, hint of chocolate, caramel/toffee...taste is smoke, light vanilla, cocoa, hints of coffee....mouth feel medium, carbonation adds spritz which leads to a creamy sensation. This is an interesting melange of aromas and flavors. The vanilla is done with a light hand, but is obviously present, and tones down the smoke to a surprising degree. This allows other malt characteristics to come forward. BJCP 7/3/15/4/7

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark with lasting off white head. Aroma is balanced smoke, malt and vanilla. Full flavoured, first you get the malt, then the smoke then the vanilla. Vanilla finish, and Iím sure I tasted some hop in there

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Purchased both the smoked porter with vanilla bean and one with chipotle, as a comparison. Pours a creamy dark, rich head. Light smoky flavoring (wish it was more pronounced). Vanilla is fairly light. All together, not a very exciting beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The beer pours a dark brown with a moderately full, cream-colored, creamy head which is mostly lasting and leaves thick, scattered lace. The nose is pleasant quite vanilla bean dominant with only slight notes of roast and faint smoke as well. The flavor is similar with more roast and some dark chocolate, slight floral note?, vanilla bean still prominent, and slight smoke. The palate is moderate, less than lively, silky, and dry. The finish is still sweet with vanilla bean, light smoke, and roast lingering. Actually a pleasant beer to drink but so vanilla dominant in the nose to allow the rest of the beer to emerge. After trying both the vanilla and chipotle porters, I would much prefer the original.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle poured into glass. Wow! This beer is awesome. Big aroma of vanilla beans and slight vanilla. The vanilla beans really come through in the flavor as well, smooth and creamy.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle:   Seems black, large foamy light beige head, rather nice lacing.   Very faint roast, chocolate, and vanilla on the nose.   Has somewhat of an artificial flair.   Certainly vanilla on the tongue, but also some very pale roasted malts and cocoa.   If this is a Porter, it lacks hops or a decent roastiness.   If its a smoked Porter, its lacking even more.   When I think of Smoked Porter I think of Alaskan, in its robustness and flavor.   This one is much thinner, with an artificial vanilla presense.   Body and mouthfeel are simply moderate.   Lackluster finish, extremely pale roast, little to no smoke, and with a moderate vanilla flavor.   Must be better on cask because in the bottle its nothing to bother recommending or having again.
