3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft pint (Labeled Stone Vanilla Smoked Porter if there is a difference) - The Stable, STL: pours dark brown with a thin, almost non-existant tan head. Smoky aroma is milder than I remember for the regular Stone Smoked Porter, but still has decent dark malts and some peatiness. Flavour is also more mild than the regular version, with more significant coffee and bitterness. Had a pint of this next to the Stone Chipotle Smoked Porter, which, with a the hint of spice combined with the deep smokiness was better than the vanilla version...

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very interesting beer. The vanilla is a bit heavy and unbalanced by the base beer, but the overall effect is still pretty good. Definately a good idea, they just maybe went a bit overboard on the vanilla.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark tar black pour with a thin khaki head. Nose is a really nice mix of gentle smoke, vanilla, and roasted malt. Taste is a lot of sweet vanilla up front with smoky roasted malts and a bit of coffee. The finish is long and gradual, ending a bit bitter. Good stuff, a bit thin mouth feel.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
650 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a medium beige head that has good retention. The aroma features vanilla, burnt toast and toffee. The taste is vanilla bean forward, so much vanilla that its hard to pick out other flavors, but filling in the side and back are bitter walnuts and somewhat acrid burnt toast. The palate is full and smooth with soft carbonation. Finishes long dry and somewhat bitter. Overall: This would be better if it was smokey.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours black with a tan head. Taste smokey, vanilla, roasted malt. I thought this was good. I could drink this again.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Another great dark beer from Stone. Color and consistency as youíd expect, the solid smoked porter backbone comes in after the clear vanilla nose and persistent presence through to the finish. Very drinkable at 5.9% compared to some others so enjoy liberally!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark dark brown with a thick cream colored head. A roasty smokiness taste up front with a hop character in the background. Followed up by a huge taste of vanilla. I like it but I think I would prefer the original.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 9, 2013 Bottle: dark mahogany & ruby body with a nice, lasting layer of creamy tan foam that looks like something from a latte; nice lacing. Aroma is dominated by a lovely vanilla bean character, akin to vanilla ice cream, or a vanilla milkshake almost. You can smell the underlying roast, light cocoa chips, & just the faintest hint of smoke, especially in the back-end. Taste is also vanilla bean heavy with a nice creaminess all around. Roasted malts are a bit more noticeable, as is the smoke. Subtle meatiness in the finish as the sweet vanilla fades out. Light dose of leafy hops, too. Very nice beer, although Iím still a fan of the original. I like the vanilla addition very much, I just wish the smoke didnít forfeit quite as much "oomph".
