3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear, dark brown, near black pour with a 2 finger, creamy beige head that fades to a thick skim then has excellent retention and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is toast, chocolate, nutty notes, nice sharp and smooth vanilla notes, toast, dark caramel, smoke and a hint of earthy wood. Flavor is smoke, roasted nuts and vanilla liqueur up front, then roast, a little char, earth, light Englishy fruity esters, bittersweet chocolate, light resinous hops and mineral notes to the finish. Palate is pretty light bodied, creamy to slightly watery on entry, medium strength, blanketing and sharp carbonation, dry minerally crisp and slightly chalky finish. Really good stuff overall, but dry and mineral are not great palate finishing deScriptors for this flavor profile, I’m not saying I need some syrupy gloop for 10x the price, but a little more body and less carbonation would be nice. The flavor starts off great, but the carbonation and seemingly over heavy mineral content blow it away pretty quickly. Still, if this were available at a better price (it was a good price for a bomber, but still crappy $/oz. ratio), I would probably drink a ton of this.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark brown with a medium offwhite head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of smoke, wheat germ, vanilla, coffee. Taste is dry with some bitter coffee grinds. Grapes (light acidity), vanilla, chocolate, coffee and smoke flavors. Body is light, carbonation moderately high and mouthfeel is weak/thin. Slight acrid and ash-y. Underwhelming, I somehow expected a bigger beer.

3.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: NOV 2, 2015 Aroma is strong vanilla...light on smoke. Over all a tasty porter. Color is brown black with substantial brown head that lingers. A little coffee bitter on the end. I prefer the thickness a stout offers but this porter has a flavor that almost makes up for the lack of body.

Decent Porter with chocolate and coffee overtones. While smokey. Not an overpowering taste.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
1 pint bottle from Beverage Depot in Burlington Vermont.
Appearance: Pours a
dark black with a finger of light tan head. Short retention, slight lacing.
Dough, hint of coffee.
Coco beans, vanilla, smoke, coffee, moca, raisins and prunes.
Average viscosity, lingering finish, average carbonation.
Overall: Nice Porter in which the vanilla and coffee beans really come out. The dark fruits like raisins and prunes come out as it begins to warm.

This stuff was really tasty. Oh, but it needs more alcohol in it. Still a delicious bit of drink.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Underwhelmed would be an understatement. Perhaps it’s a bit old? Standard porter looks. Aroma has mild vanilla and smoke....very mild. There’s almost zero of the deep roasted flavors a porter typically presents, with very, very mild vanilla and very mild smoke. Quite disappointing.

Tap @ Black Sheep, MPLS. Deep brown pour with a prominent tan head. Somewhat hazy. Toasted marshmallow and vanilla. Mellow smoked malts. Nice sweet/earthy profile. Taste is fairly rich. Generally sweet, some umami. Brown sugar, light smoke. Burnt caramel. Sort of oily. Pretty nice stuff.
