Pours light black with a moderately thin, bone-colored head which disspates rather quickly but does not completely disappear. First aroma is majority vanilla, only some smoke, with hints of cocoa and coffee. First taste is predominantly vanilla with only a hint of smoke. Medium body, lightly coats your mouth. Carbonation is easily refreshed with a swirl of the glass. Becomes a bit more bitter as it warms, but nice vanilla taste throughout without a lot of smoke. Overall, a nice brew to enjoy when its cold out.

Beautiful dark brown poor with about an inch and a half to two inch frothy head. If you hold it to the light you can see hints of red. In the intial flavor I get the chocolate with the finish flavor coming in a little bitter and smokey coffee. This was an easy, smooth drink for me, had to consciencely slow down once or twice. This could easily become a strong session beer. http://wp.me/p5urG4-eY

Rich malty brew that pours out a burgundy hued brown with a thick, foamy tan head. The nose has vanilla up front with licorice and coffee notes blending with a light smoky, earthy note. A bit sweet in the mid palate with vanilla all over and nice notes of soft smoky malts and coffee beans. A good balance with the smoke. The finish is rich and a bit bitter with a nice lingering vanilla smoke note. Overall, a good brew.

Deep brown with ruby hues on the edge. Frothy off white head is lasting nicely. Aroma is quite muted. Some light smoke but not a lot there. Flavor comes with some vanilla and a light smokiness. The vanilla and smoke fight slightly for dominance but actually work well together. Nice beer.

Pours clear dark with red highlights and a decent foamy head. Nose is smoke, roast, a hint of coffee, some chocolate. Taste is very roasty, milk chocolate, vanilla bean on the finish, some bitterness on the finish, smoke. Very smooth. Interesting, I don't love the finish. There's a lot going on here, perhaps too much.

Bottle. Dark Brown, practically black, pour with a beige head. Taste and aroma of smoky dark roasted malt and vanilla. Just as it is meant to be.

On tap @ SL Liquors. Pours a deep dark brown color with a mahogany hint and a half-inch light tan head that is pretty dense and slightly sticky. The aroma is of straight vanilla with a lightly roasted malt, cocoa, and coffee. The flavor follows with strong vanilla along with light roast, milk chocolate, cocoa and coffee. Medium carbonation with a full creamy medium body.

Transfer from BA review on 1-11-14- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a slightly hazed, deep brown, almost black color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head fades rather fast leaving a decent level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is very sweet with tons of vanilla from the vanilla bean aging. Along with the sweet vanilla, are other sweet smells of chocolate and some light caramel. While overall sweet, there is a nice level of roasted and darker smells as well. Aromas of a roasted malt and a lighter level of smoke and char are all there, balancing out the sweeter smells quite nicely. Taste – The taste begins with lots of the sweeter vanilla and chocolate flavors detected in the nose. Along with these, are some roasted malt flavors with hint of a light char and smoke mixed within. The vanilla fades ever so slightly with the smoke and char getting slightly stronger. Toward the end the chocolate fades a bit as well with some lighter hoppier flavors of a pine and earth nature taking their place. While the vanilla is slightly less at the end, it is still quite strong, and with an increase in roasted and smoke flavors ends up leaving a still rather sweet, but nicely smoked and roasted porter flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both the slightly thicker body and lower carbonation are fantastic for the roasted and darker flavors of the brew, while accentuating all that vanilla flavor and really allowing them to make a big presence on the tongue (which is sort of what they are going for with the vanilla bean aging.. at least that is what I think..). Overall – Lots of nice vanilla flavors mixed with a good porter base and a bit of smoke. This was a quite enjoyable brew overall and in my opinion moderately superior to the none vanilla bean aged brew.
