Commercial Description:
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

22 oz. bottle from Total Wine (Enjoy by 7/23/2009). Cola-like pour with a creamy beige head. Slightly smoky flavor with more dominating semi-sweet chocolate, a hint of coffee, and a faint note of grassy hops. Smoky malt flavor with a slight hop bitterness. Surprisingly thin even for a porter (certainly not rich like the description says). This is a very good porter but the body leaves me wanting a bit more.

so good, like every stone beer i have had the beers aroma was mostly coffee and hinted very subtly at chocolate the taste imo was very complex and amazing, strong coffee flavors with hints of chocolate and caramel which is very nicely ballanced by hoppy bitterness will definitely drink again very thick but not syrupy on the palate

Raisins and brown sugar on the nose, not strong. Clear dark cola colored, thin beige head, very minimal lacing. Smoky, charred oak and blackberry flavor with grass and coffee at midpalate. Charcoal and lemon grass finish. Interesting complexity, good transitions, and decent balance. Thinish mouthfeel that works for me. It tastes phenolic at times when warm. It sure beats the smoky overkill in rauchbiers.

Bottle. Not much head or aroma. tasty with smoky toffee flavor. Not my favorite Porter in the world but certainly not bad. Especially since its stocked at my grocery store.

Great malty profile with hints of fruit toffee cocoa and java - comforting detailed aromas. Am drinking this warm so the sweetness will crisp up with cooling. The roast, smoke and hops are just a nice ’edge’ to balance the sweetness. Excellent! Loving Stone beers.

Pours a deep mocha brown with a red tinge and thick, fizzy off-white head. Aroma of mocha and a bit of malt. I don’t really get a smoke taste anywhere, but there are some good hints of dark chocolate and roasted pistachio. Moderate body for a porter. A bit more alcohol finish as it warms. This is very good.

Compared to others in it’s class (Smoke Jumper, Alaskan Smoked Porter, etc.), this one just doesn’t quite stand up. Still tasty...but more mild and easy on the palate. Dark mahogany pour with a fluffy latte head that left some lacing. A bit thin leaving the bottle and in the mouth. Chocolate, caramel, and a hint of smoke/pulled pork. Good, unfortunately not great.

Pours a rich, dark brown. Aroma is strong of smoke and dark malts. Notes of chocolate and caramel stand out as well. On the palate it is smooth and creamy. The taste is really stong in smoke. The finish is a bit dry leaving an after taste of sweet burnt malts and smoke. A little too much smoke for me, but still alright. I could not drink more than one in an evening.
