COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Bottle. Pours brown/black, thick pale tan head, fantastic lacing. Nose is smoke, bacon, roasted barley, a little watery-smelling. Flavours of smoke, cocoa, coffee, tar, lots of roast, very chewy, extremely smooth. LIke this a ton!

On tap at Sally’s Restaurant. Pours nearly black with a fair amount of tan head. Aroma is smoked malts and some chocolate. Taste is some chocolate, smokiness some roasted nuttiness. This is a pretty dry beer for the style.

5oz draught. Pours a dark brown/black. Aroma of smoke, chocolate, coffee, peat. Flavor is coffee, peat, chocolate, smoke. Good, easy drinking porter. Not overly powerful on any level. Just balanced.

Smoky, hoppy aroma. Inch-thick brownish white head. Solid black in appearance (as it should). Very rich taste, overwhelms the taste buds. Smoked is correct. Smooth finish.

dark brown pour with a thick tan head. aroma is strong roast malt, chocolate and wood smoke. flavour is peaty smokey that blends well with a nice roast malt body. Some coffee and hint of bitter chocolate. Bit thin in the palate. Still enjoyable though.

Medium brown with very foamy, tal head. Smells smokey, dryly of alcohol, and of spices, maybe allspice. Starts sweet and fades to a more bitter, spice flavor. Medium bodied.

On draught. Pours an extremely dark (almost black) brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of smoke, chocolate and vanilla. I was afraid the smoke flavor would overpower the beer (that is the case with many of the smoked bears I have had), but it didn’t. The smoke blended in very well with the rest of the flavor profile. Not sure if I’ll have this one again, but it was better than I thought it would be.

Overall, I liked the beer. I have not had a smoked beer before and I could smell it, like hickory. Nice taste that was not too sweet and had a nice lingering bitter flavor.
