Commercial Description:
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Very nice, with the smoke very much in the background. Really just enough to keep things interesting. Borderline stout, as it is pitch black and pretty smooth. Not really a SMOKED porter, but a smoked PORTER. It does tie the room together though.

nose of sweet malt, nearly oats. smoke is currently only a background element. flavor of lightly salted smoke but not the pronounced bacon found in some smoked beers. sweet roast and even some hops. some essence of cola as well. smoke somehow seems to affect yeast character with slightly ’off’ aromas and an odd aftertaste. this needs to be a bigger beer to be more successful with this kind of roast, smoke nonwithstanding.

Amazing balance in this fantastic beer. Rich and sweet with a smoky, earthy, almost moleasses feel.

Pitch black with a creamy tan head. Sweet chocolate malt aromas abound. Smooth and not too smoky with a balanced bitterness. Strong chocolate and dark fruit flavors which accentuate the smokiness and complexity.

Pours very dark black with a decent head. Smells of roasted malts, some chocolate, and smoke. The taste is virtually identical, with some coffee hints (from the roasted malts). Very nice beer.

Bottle. Extremely dark red/brown body with a one finger brown head, which lasted the duration of the beer. Smoky and sweet aroma, like a good brisket, as well as nicotine, hickory, oak smoke, and earthy dirt notes. Creamy yet fizzy mouth feel.
