3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dixonian (940) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAR 8, 2011
22oz bottle.
Dark black color with a very nice tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate, and smoke aromas - I really like how the smokiness works with the malty flavors and that is in no way overpowering. Another delicious brew from Stone!

Another beer that shows the brewers ability to give flavor along with balance. The smoke plays a part but only A part. Otherwise, the malts shine and the complexity shows it’s face and isn’t smoked out. The mouthfeel is right on, coating your mouth with silk. Also, the pour was beautiful with a tannish head. The aroma is sweet like sweet smoked pork. The malts show through in the nose. Great beer.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 SourNotes (104) - Bloomington, Minnesota, USA - MAR 3, 2011
Appearance:
Pours jet black. Dark Ruby Red color when held to the light with a 1 1/2 to 2 finger tan bubbly head
Smell:
First nose dip brang heavy chocolate maltiness with a touch of espresso and brown sugar. smelled a littl grapefruit rine from the hops. After giving it a little swirl the heavier smoke smells and a bourbon like booziness become apparent.
Taste:
Hard Smoke like i’m enjoying a cuban.... cigar. It hits on the outside of the tongue with a nice silky layer of decedent chocolate sifting over the middle of my tongue. Just an ever so slight hint of caramel pops out here and there. it sits and waits in the background till you ahve wore out the smoke and chocolate.
Mouthfeel:
creamy on the top of the tongue, hard on the sides with the smoke edginess. leaves a very slight stickiness on the upper lip.
Drinkability:
I want some blackened chicken and roasted corn, perhaps texas style BBQ. Char some meat a little bit and drink this with it. mmmm. I remember having some cheesess with Ash rind. I think those would be deligtful with this. I could drink this with that food or on its own. I think late fall would be great for this when you can smell the russian ash trees. right when it gets cold and you light the fire. very nice.
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 rougeau13 (1067) - Texas, USA - FEB 28, 2011
Really dark brown to almost black with a thick beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and a subtle smoke character. The taste is richly roasty with the smoke as more of an accent than the dominant element. It has a full, smooth, and somewhat oily body, and a nice slightly dry and bitter finish. Really good stuff.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 JDBaker11058 (616) - Maryland, USA - FEB 27, 2011
Appearance: lovely pour--very dark brown, with deep ruby highlights lightening to amber at the edges; creamy, one-finger beige head; thick, creamy lacing. Aroma: meaty (bacon), smoke and a little ash; chocolate, caramel, a bit of wet golden retriever. Taste: as the aroma indicates, minus the wet dog; lots of smoke, meat, ash and wood, a little leather, bittersweet dark chocolate and caramel. Finish: long, smooth, moving from smoky and richly sweet to a little bitter. Notes: Very nice smoked porter. Palate is a delight--rich and creamy-smooth, which compliments the sweetness. The bitterness comes through at the end to ready the palate for the next satisfying sip. Comparable to the Great Divide Smoked Baltic Porter; just a notch or two below.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 kev1001 (67) - Montana, USA - FEB 24, 2011
22oz bottle. Pours almost black with a medium, slightly tan head. Taste upfront is dry with just hints of dark cocoa and espresso. Then the smoke hits. Definitely the most pronounced taste but not overpowering. Good beer but not exceptional.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ernesto987 (1257) - Connecticut, USA - FEB 21, 2011
UPDATED: MAR 10, 2011 I would’ve liked this more smoked, it’s very subtle, first time i’ve seen stone be subtle, the porter backgraound is very good, rich roasted malts, recommended

(bottle) A descent porter cloaked in smoke. Elements of roasted coffee and charred malts. A nice choice for the right occasion or food paring.
