COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Couldn’t smell a whole lot in the aroma. Maybe it’s too cold. The taste is definitely "Smoked." Its creamy and smooth with a constantly changing after taste. I really like this beer.

UPDATED: SEP 18, 2004 Great brew. Pours a lovely black hue witha nice toasty brown head. Smells like a chocolate bar. Really it smelled so creamy and smooth I couldn’t believe it. Tastes just as chocolatey. Hops prevent the beer from flattening out on the palate. They keep things perked up. Nice balance between the malt and hops. Both are totally in your face. The smoke is an excellent part of this brew. Not too heavy not non existant. Smooth and drinkable. I could drink 400 of these. grat

Great pour with a wicked head. The aroma rolling off this beer were wonderful...I definately noticed the smoked part, maybe I was looking for it too much. Rich chocolate malt, creamy and smooth. Very nice finish. Stone continues to amaze.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2006 Nice and foamy head that seems to boil like a mud-pot; tons of beautiful lacing; hints of licorice, and a light fruity, chocolate-dough aroma (?!); nice rich, thick, malty, bitter-sweet, chocolatly, roasty, creamy, and *very* mild smokey flavor: maybe needs more smoke? Outstanding.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2004 Nice smokey, roasted aroma. Chocolate, dark coffee, smoked flavors. This is pretty tasty. Has a mellow richness about it. Warms up nicely. Overall, nice one from Stone. Re-rate: I was much more impressed with this the first time around. Last night I had another bottle and was a bit disappointed. By no means is this a bad porter, but Alaskan smoked porter it ain't. It was to bitter and the smoke was almost undetectable. The roasted malt was mushy and the beers overall flavors didn't mesh together very well. Not very balanced. It's just to bitter and sharp. I would have to re-rate 3.5.

This is a great smoked porter. beautiful head and a dark brown color and if you can’t taste the smoke flavor, get your taste buds checked!!

From a 22oz bomber pours out a deep yet slightly translucent dark garnet color. Big, lumpy oatmeal like off-white head, chunky lacing clings to the glass. Smell is smooth, sweet and reminiescent of bitter chocolate and creamed coffee with thin prickling strands of bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy, wonderful and refreshing. Subtle smokey roastiness, with a semi-sweet cocoa middle and a teasing hop zing at the end. Excellent.

Deep, dark delicious. The tan head lasts to the bottom of the mug. Smooth but strong witha delightful smoky flavor. It is hopped just right, not bitter and no cloying aftertaste. This goes on my buy again list

wow! poured a dark dark brown color almost black with a little red twinge. a tan head that faded a bit to fast for me. The aroma was mixed iwht smoke, chololate, malts, and caramel notes. The taste was a mix of chocolate hops, and smoke. Very rich and hearty. One of the best beers i have ever had
