A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2004 Smells chocolatey and sweet with hints of smoke and coffee. Deep brown color with a decent tan head. Tastes sweet and rich with flavors of burnt cocoa. Finishes slightly bitter with a kiss of hops. Not smokey enough for the style in my opinion.

Very dark brown with a light head that sticks around. Light but pleasant roasted malt aroma with a little smoke. Roasted coffee flavor with some more of the smoke in the finish. My first brew with even a little smoke...interesting.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2007 Pours a very dark brown/black with a reddish hue and a thick beige head. Aroma is of light smoke and wood. Taste is of coffee, mocha, very light peat, roasted malt and balanced hoppage. Perfect amount of sweetness with a mild burnt aftertaste. Medium to light mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Overall, one of the best porters out there, recommended.

blackish/ruby body with a big, foamy & creamy dark tan head, lasting and good lacing. medium to light smoky nose, faint raisin, and toasted/burnt malts too. roasted malt and coffee flavor, with a strong hop presence for a porter. not much smoke flavor. medium to light mouthfeel, low carbonation. while ratebeer calls it a porter, the bottle labels it a smoked porter, so Iím calling this #2 compared to the alaskan smoked.

Bottle. Poured a deep opaque brown. Head is brownish, short lived. Decent lacing. Aroma is malty with roasted grains, chocolate with a note of smoke. Body is medium to full. Flavors of chocolate and coffee predominate with a hint of the smoked peat. There are better porters out there but this is very well done.

Poured very dark with a medium brown head that left a lacing on the glass. The aroma was pretty rich for a porter, and smelled of smoky molasses. Initial taste was surprisingly less sweet than I anticipated, but not necessarily as smoky as I anticipated, either. Overall it had a very mild sweetness with a predominant roasted character. The finish was bitter at first but smoothed out rather nicely. Not as good as Anchor or Fullerís I donít think, but a fine porter from a true upstanding company.
