Pours like the black of night. A nice white to off white head develops.
Aroma is roasted malt and smoke.
Flavor is deep smoked and roasted malt with a nice countering bitterness. Quite dry finish, but that cleans it all up. Quite tasty.
Mouthfeel is substantial but not quite coating which is appropriate for a porter, but I would call this basically an Imperial Porter.
Drinkability is great considering this is very flavorful brew.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2008 [bottle] Pours a dark ruby red with a thick tan head. Smoked and roasted chocolaty/coffee aroma. Initial smoky taste with a coffee undertone followed by a nutty sweet flavor and a good bitter aftertaste. A little lingering sweetness but not much. Creamy mouthfeel.

A dark porter full of chocolate and coffee. Not as good as the 6th aniversary porter but still very good. The long finish is very enjoyable

Somehow I have never had nor rated this brew from Stone. This is really quite surprising considering how many of the other Stone brews I have had. Deep dark ruby body topped by a rocky tan head. Glass lacing is very nice. Aroma is smoky with a good amount of roasted malt and chocolate malt. I also get a good wallop of citrus hops. The flavor is smoky but not nearly as much as the Alaskan Smoked Porter. There are lots of chocolate and nutty flavors. The hops are noticeable. The body is medium-full with an acidic bite towards the end. The finish is medium dry there is a little bit of lingering sweetness but not overly much. Overall a very nice brew.

Dark Chocolate and Coffee are present throughout the beer. Very nice, very smooth. I didn't really catch the smokiness, My first porter and very good one at that.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 24, 2004 (22 oz bottle, $3) Probably my favorite year-round beer from Stone; It has a chocolatey and strongly dark roasted flavor from start to finish; Somewhat sweet the instant the beer hits the tongue, but this gradually is overtaken by the intense bitterness that dominates the finish; The smokiness is moderately strong right from the first sip, but really comes to life late in the finish as well; Sweet, candy nose with a moderate aromas of smoke and hops; Full bodied, but not heavy; Nearly black and opaque with a slight brownish tint; Large tan head has a creamy topping over a bubbly head; Good head retention and lacing

Bomber: honestly this is my first smoked beer,(and I didn't inhale). I'm not crazy about the flavor but I appreciate the beer for the expertise in which it is crafted. Stone has my utmost respect. I will come back and re-rate as smoky beers are new to me.

Had this on tap at DBA in NYC and was knocked out. I usually do not like any beer with the word "smoked" in the name, but ordered it cause it was the only Stone brew offered that day & it was simply amazing. Tasty as hell - without being "too" anything. Subtle waves of flavor!

Smoky, chocolaty aroma. Pours a deep dark brown with a brown, creamy head. Tastes of ash, campfire, chocolate, coffee, and caramel. The usual Stone hop bite comes in mildly at the end.
