Dark ruby brown color with nice highlights. Great explosive tan head and fantastic lacing. Fruity hops with coffee & chocolate, bitter notes emerge. Flavorful with just the right amount of smoked qualities, goes GREAT with some jerky while camping. Slightly sweet & bitter. Yummy!

22 oz. Seems like an average porter to me. The label is a pretty accurate description actually, I could taste the smoke as 'an element'. Decent hop flavor. Tasty, but I prefer other porters.

Pours an opaque dark brown with an ok head. Has an ever changing character. First sniff reminds me of an English Pale Ale. Next one is mocha with hints of smokiness. Taste is similarly schizophrenic, but in a good way. Plenty of hops with smokiness appearing variably upfront and in the finish. That said, the character is mostly malts. Interesting brew, but a little confusing because it doesn't always taste/smell the same. Soft on the palate.

Bottle. Dark brown, almost black with tan head. Mocha, malt, with a touch of berry and hops in the aroma. Starts out sweet and fruity, chocolate, blackberry, smoke comes on more in the finish and as the beer warmed up. Long finish, starts sweet then dry and a little bitter. Little confused on the style here, I think I'd call it a porter. Whatever, it's good either way.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black w/ ruby hue. Light brown head. Light smoke (peat) aroma w/ some woody, vinous elements. Full-bodied. Lovely, subtle smoked flavour w/ a nice, roasty, chocolaty, nutty complexity

Smoked. Lambic . Smoked lambic aged with additional 35 lb/barrel of Downsview hops . Nah, I still love my self to much, far too much. Yet that night when I had first time in my life Lambic that forced me to stop saying that all lambics are good as vinaigrette to garden salads. That night also I had my second revelation. Not every smoked should be used as a sausage smoking pit. Stone Smoked porter was an elegant, handsome brew that used nicely roasted malt with gentle refined undertone of smoke. Not overdone in any way. Mr. Koch was right this time .Smoke being part of beer made it better. Hallelujah!

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
24 oz. bottle Velvety soft, super dark, subtle smokiness is just enough to be distinctive, not nearly enough to be overpowering. Sweet, woodsmoke aroma with a undertone of hops. Nicely balanced all the way from malty start to lightly bitter finish, fading evenly on the tongue. Of course it's good! It's a Stone :>

UPDATED: APR 30, 2009 Rerate A bit less flavorful this time around - not as much roasted chocolate notes as a porter of this caliber should have Original 3.9 An excellent smoked beer for those who are not fond of smoked beers (me!). The appearance is the color of raw liver with a mocha head and good lacing. Has a slight smoky aroma but not overpowering. Has a very mellow smoky flavor not cloying at all and did not taste like a bottle of liquid smoke - I expected to be blown out of the water with smoky flavor. Has a very pleasant mouthfeel. The hops find their way in nicely in the aftertaste. Well done.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black beauty body, with a very thick, tan head, though not extremely dense due to fat bubbles. Smells of bitter hops, roasted chocolate-malt, and also some sweet cinnamon. Taste is a whole lot of coffee flavored hops, bitter chocolate and hickory-smoked barbeque. A novel occurrence being that I’ve never had a smoked beer before. Carries a medium-to-thick bodied feel in the mouth with hefty carbonation. Aftertaste is monstrously powerful, roasted everything: chocolate, coffee, oak chips, alcohol, furniture, phonebooks, and anything else you can heave into the fire. A very complex beer that ultimately fails because of too many strong flavors bombarding the palate. Honestly, I was expecting more refinement from Stone for this beer.

Very nice. Almost a stout instead of a smoked porter. Definite chickory taste with bits of hop taste. A great beer that can be enjoyed by all.
