COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Black beauty body, with a very thick, tan head, though not extremely dense due to fat bubbles. Smells of bitter hops, roasted chocolate-malt, and also some sweet cinnamon. Taste is a whole lot of coffee flavored hops, bitter chocolate and hickory-smoked barbeque. A novel occurrence being that I’ve never had a smoked beer before. Carries a medium-to-thick bodied feel in the mouth with hefty carbonation. Aftertaste is monstrously powerful, roasted everything: chocolate, coffee, oak chips, alcohol, furniture, phonebooks, and anything else you can heave into the fire. A very complex beer that ultimately fails because of too many strong flavors bombarding the palate. Honestly, I was expecting more refinement from Stone for this beer.

Very nice. Almost a stout instead of a smoked porter. Definite chickory taste with bits of hop taste. A great beer that can be enjoyed by all.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2014 Jet black with a nice tan head that, after it settles, actually reminds me of a guinness. Nice aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and yes, smoke. There isn’t a huge amount of smoke in the flavor, but it’s enough to make this beer more interesting than a typical dark porter. Great hop balance; a bit more hoppy than a typical porter or stout, but thankfully it’s not overdone as I thought it might be. A truly great beer.

Dark cola clear colour. Yes - it has a peaty smoke aroma but plenty of roast malt, coffee and molasses as well. Mild medium smooth fortified wine like palate. Smoked, malt and hops are well balanced. Thinnish smoky finish and aftertaste.

This beer is very dark, perhaps a deep reddish brown. The nose is full of chocolate with a touch of smoke. The palate is rich and creamy with an undertone of smoked malt. The hop presence is dutifully balanced. The only major flaw I find in this beer is that is under smoked for my tastes.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2004 Sugary brown rum in drunken dark chocolate...Berries thrive amiddst the smoke and attain a roasty perfection...No smog in sight, just a beautifully crafted smoked porter with green back bitterness...More carbonated than the Bièropholie Calumet and less prevalent smoke...

Deep brown-black color. Excellent tan head. Very smokey - but a little thin. Could use a little more malt.

Pours a chocolatey brown, with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts. Bitter, dry, roasted chocolate and woodiness dominates the malty palate, with slight smoked notes joining the proverbial parade of flavor. Still, I prefer edgier takes on the style, and Stone plays it "safe" on their version.

(Bottle) Near opaque with a brown head. Smoked caramel flavour. Good. Thanks Argo for bringing this....
