nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 26, 2008 The aroma is about what I expected. It’s smokey, toasty, malty, nutty, and mildly alcoholic. The appearance is red/brown with a nice foamy head. The taste is like the aroma with a bitter finish. The palate is OK but not as thick as I was hoping for. Overall it’s pretty good for a smoke but I don’t really like it. jimmack34 (560), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Nov 26, 2008 Pours jet black with a blood red hue. Head is crisp, thin, and tan. Smells of charred oak, some roasted coffee. Tastes smokey, burnt coffee, and rich. As it warms, a little more coffee comes out. Aftertaste is semi sweet and smooth. Lots of lacing. Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Nov 26, 2008 great beer, not overly done on the smoke nor on the porter side of cocoa and coffee. it has a fair amount of both the balance works very well ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Nov 21, 2008 More like a smoked schwarzbier or black lager, in that it’s sweet but not roasty, except in the finish, which is good. Aroma has some ham, as does flavor. Flavor has good peaty flavor. Enough clean bitterness in the finish with some good pine roughness. Flavor starts out poor and watery, but improves as it goes.
penguinjive7 (67), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 21, 2008 This brew pours a dark, almost black color with a band of light tan head. Lacing retains somewhat but is not significant.
The smell is of smoke and semi-sweet chocolate.
The first taste to hit the tongue is the smokiness followed immediately by the nicely roasted malt. A hint of dark chocolate can be tasted as well. The finish is a very roasted flavor with a hint of charcoal. An excellent blend in the finish.
The carbonation is done very well and complements the brew’s viscocity.
A fine tasting brew that all could drink all night. Extremely drinkable and proves to be yet another astounding offering from Stone.

Black with thick tan head. Nose of maltiness but light smoke. Taste comes off with light smoke flavor, burnt malts, sweet. Smooth profile, easy to drink, alcohol very evident-tastes like an 8% ABV beer. Warms up nicely. Good beer.
