COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

This a porter only Stone could make. Just like everything else they make, this beer is downright ballsy. Pours thick and black with a nice foamy head. The scent is heady and smokey and absolutely intoxicating (no pun intended). It tastes much like it smells, the flavor rich and biting. The smokiness is very present, and adds a unique experience to the familiar style. As usual, Stone pulls no punches, thought I wish this beer wasn’t so hard on the palette. They really make sure that if you’re going to drink one of their beers, you’re going to stick with it by god. Personally, I’m fine with that.

Bottle. Pours a clear but very dark brownish mahogany with a creamy tan head that lasts a while. Aroma is quite smoky and chocolatey with notes of coffee and licorice as well. Flavour is very similar to the aroma with a pronounced mocha character and nicely interwoven smokiness as well as additional hints of vanilla and caramel. Mouthfeel is both dry and creamy with light tingly carbonation and a long bitter finish. Well made and nicely balanced - this is a great combination of styles and very easy to drink.

Poured into a snifter. Appearance is a dark black with a thick tan head. Ridiculous amount of carbonation. At one point the head was larger than the body of the beer by a good bit. Aroma is smoky chocolate, coffee, and light hops. Taste is comparable to the nose but with the hops playing a smaller role. This beer is probably becoming one of my favorites of all time. Simply fantastic.

22oz Bottle poured into english pint glass. Beautiful dark brown with ruby highlights that you can actually see light through towards the bottom of the glass. Large head with good lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, alcohol and a little smoke. Taste is a little more smoke, hops, coffee, roasted malts. Very good porter.

Just enough smoke to give it a richness for those cold winter nights. the aroma is smoky malt with some chocolate and maybe a touch of caramel. The pour is dark brown with a light tan head. The flavor is smoky sweet with a rich creamy smooth feel.

Bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger.Pours black as Coke with a nice looking 2 inch creamy tanned head. Aroma is moderate smoked malts, peat, chocolate and some dark caramel, quite interesting. Taste is mildly smoked, not too much in any way, more subdued smoke, with some nice chocolate and liquorice as well. Modertae bitterness, finishes off on the sweet side. Very good and inviting beer.
