Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Sep 3, 2008 Draught. Low and quickly disappearing off-white fluffy head. Pitch black body. Coffee cocoa vineous aroma. Coffee cocoa liquorice hops kovely smoked flavor. Low carbonation, long aftertaste. johnnyoski (160), Macomb, Michigan, USA Sep 1, 2008 22oz bottle: Pours very dark brown with an off-white head. Aroma of smoky, roasted malt, cocoa and slight hint of coffee. Nice smoked taste with some dark chocolate flavor gives it a subtle bitter finish. Surprisingly lighter body than I expected. I’ll probably try this one again. fakepurseninja (772), Washington, USA Sep 1, 2008 About what I expected. Moderate roasted malt backbone with light smokiness. Moderate dark chocolate with some light coffee bean notes. Woody and somewhat earthy, a tad thin. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2008 pours dark brown and clean with tan head and lots of lacing aromas of smoke and coffee and roasted malts taste is of smoke.chocolate, coffee and malts has a smooth mouthfeel not a big fan of smoke beer but not over powering it is a flavor in the beer not the flavor of th beer ewestern (198), Ohio, USA Aug 30, 2008 Started with a wonderful smokey dark fruit aroma. Dark brown pour with tones of amber and a thick light tan head. Flavor was disappointing compared to the aroma. Reminded me of Dogfish Head d’Etre but watered down and with smokey overtone to it. Finished with a slight bitterness. Overall not a bad beer, but very mellowed flavor of malts and hops that do not let reach its potential. dlovell2 (136), Columbia, Maryland, USA Aug 27, 2008 Dark brown color with tan head. Smoky aroma. Roasted malt flavor with chocolate and coffee flavors. This beer was just ok for me. douglas88 (1555), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Aug 24, 2008 Got this beer some time ago in a trade. Pours a black body with red hints at the edges, and a huge beige head. The aroma was light; earthy notes, some smoke, toasted malts and light chocolates. The flavor was a full and nice porter, some toasted malts and a creamy body, but also a nice smoked aspect, especially in the finish. Very nice. durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle. Deep dark mahogany pour with tan head. From the nose to the taste, what struck me about this beer was its hoppiness. Wow... never had a porter this hoppy. For my taste buds, it obscured the more porter-like elements (which were all there--lactose, smoke, peat, chocolate, malt), and I didn’t think this was smoked enough to merit the "Smoked Porter" label, even if they don’t claim it to be a rauchbier. All that said, it was a very enjoyable brew; just needed some expectation management. Not to mention that I had a very meaty/smoky Alaskan smoked porter directly before... so quite different.
