Aromas are light chocolate and toasted malts. Flavor is very smooth and a bit creamy. Roasted malts, chocolate and a hint of coffee. This actually reminds me of a a beer in the realm of a dry stout. Nice beer. Ethereal (1500), London, Greater London, England

Lots of peat on the otherwise chocolately malt nose. In the mouth, the beer is oily and smooth with vinous flavours and evident alcohol but not too much smokiness. A robust beer that I was surprised is ’just’ 5.9%. kieleszd (83), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Aug 8, 2008 The malts and hops are both delicate and light. Taste of light body coffee with a touch of a smoked chocolate. This is much milder in taste than in aroma. Would work in harmony with grilled fish. Enjoyed from a snifter. Pours almost black with a small frothy head. Aroma isn’t too strong, a bit of dark chocolate and smoke. The taste is much lighter than I have come to expect from smoked beers. Thinner than I had thought but still very tasty. Would buy again and would love to have with a meal. It seems like it would go with a heavy feast. Lovely 17thfloor (1447), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 7, 2008 Pours near black with a huge fine creamy tan froth that has popping bubbles on the very top. Light aroma of dark malt, peat, creamy chocolate, and smoked wood. First taste is of dark chocolates, followed by peat smoked malt and coffee bitterness. The flavors aren’t extremely assertive, but they meld together extraordinarily well. The smoke is pretty faint, more of a scotch ale peat flavor. This is a dead-ringer for my buddy’s home-brew smoked porter... he’s a very good brewer =) . Lingering licorice aftertaste, some residual sugars. Softly carbonated medium/full body. Very easy drinking, the carbonation is so soft. Full agreement that the smoke is an "element" rather than the full character of the beer. 12many (231), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 6, 2008 Bottle. Very dark brown pour with a small tan head. Seems a little thin and the head only leaves some small spotted lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and a bit of smokey malt. Flavor is better than what I was expecting. Mild sweetness and the smokiness is more apparent while sipping. Palate is a little thin but silky and with a decent short aftertaste. Pretty solid. Plenty of flavor but not overpowering making this some what of a session porter. Praetorian (86), Los Angeles, California, USA
