Commercial Description:
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

A dark brown to black beer with a fast disappearing head. The aroma is roasted like close to charred malt, with a dash of smoke. The taste is very smooth with a somewhat roasted taste with some tar & a very slight smokey aftertaste that is akin to an ashy taste. The first time I had this I did not detect any smoke taste but on the second try as it warmed up it was noticeable. Would be good to drink outside in the cold next to a fire.

The Stone Smoked Porter poured a translucent brown with an amber hue. The off-white head was massive due to a very heavy pour. A very evident lace was left as the head receded. The aroma was dominated by smoky malt. The taste was malty with a hint of spice and a smoky finish. For those of you who do not like smoked beers, be aware that as a smoked porter, there truly is not a lot of smokiness to this beer...for those of you love smoked beers you might be disappointed. The mouthfeel is mediocre, not as creamy as I would have liked but with a nice carbonation that makes the beer quite drinkable. All in all an enjoyable brew.

Had this at the Great Lakes Brew Fest. This porter was incredible, maybe one of the best porters I’ve ever had. The smokiness spreads out to the back of your throat in a coating manner. Very very good beer, wish I could drink more often.

Tap at the Saucer. Smoky, thick mouth feel. Nice coffee notes. Has the usual Stone punch.

bomber from total wine in norfolk. pours a dark, chestnut brown with a thick, tan head and great lacing. aroma is very nice big notes of smoke, wood, salt cured bacon, and roast with a touch of red fruit, coffee, and ash. flavor is excellent with huge roasted malts, smoked almonds, charred wood, and coffee up front with slight hints of tart, red fruit, chocolate, and toffee rounding out the sip leaving a dry, roasted finish. palate is medium bodied and very smooth with solid carbonation. overall, a damn good porter.

It poured a dark liquid with a small foam that left no lacing. It smelled sweet with chocolate, smoke and coffey. It tasted similar. Felt ok but not spectacular.
