COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Not a big Porter fan...at least not before I tasted this brew. This beer is a great example of a big time hop head converting a bit to the dark side. The smell was decent, but the taste, mouthfeel, and finish were very good. Now Iím apt to try more Porters to stack up, and see how this one really MEASURES up! Keep on drinking...

Very good porter, not much smoke. Smooth almost milky when swallowed . Canít stop sipping long enough to type. I will be getting this one again...soon!

Much rather have the vanilla bean addition!! Not a bad brew, but the smokiness overtakes the porter taste! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a nice deep dark brown with a light milk chocolate colored head. I love the smokey flavor with the subtle hints of chocolate.

Smoke is mildly present, malt is balanced averagely with the chocolate. Coffee is also present, not overwhelming though.

smokey enough to satisfy my smoke craving. chocaletey with a hint of dark coffee, thereís a lightness in here somewhere, but I have a tough time placing it...perhaps deep caremely? maybe itís in the malt? full bodied, also slightly nutty. I didnít care for the "arrogant bastard" as much as the ratings on here would indicate, but I found this to be a very satisfying and complex brew.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2014 Coffee, nuts, and a very faint hint of smoke. Not your average porter, almost tastes more like a brown ale to me. Still good though.

The smell is subdued; only a hint of the smokiness comes out in the aroma, followed by some coffee and chocolate, more of an alcohol scent than the ABV implies. The color is very dark brown, verging on black. Pours a thick brownish head that takes a while to go away. The taste is charcoal, salty bacon, but very light for the style. The mouthfeel is a little weak, but the carbonation is very light and like it is said of many mainstream beers, "it goes down easy". This beer would be great for a BBQ, or for anyone like myself who wants to drink dark beers, even in the summer. Great take on the style. Highly recommend.

Bottled. Pours deep brown with an average, lacing tan head. Aroma of slightly roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and a hint of smoke. Sweet flavor that ends up dry with bitter notes. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carb. An excellent porter inndeed.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. This is a very dark brown beer with ruby red highlights. It has chocolate and red fruity flavours, a smoked/roasted body and a spicy red fruit, citrus, chocolate, oak and zesty and fruity finish. Excellent!
