Aroma is yeasty, some hop fruitiness and a mild, far away smoke. Flavor is subtle, the hops and smoke in the nose don’t dominate the sweet chocolate notes, tobacco, rye bread, and toast flavors that mingle on the tongue. Very well balanced, though hops are more prominent than many porters (West Coast brewers, I suppose). Very nice. Thanks, beastiefan! TEJA (284), Stockholm, Sweden

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours pitch black, big creamy tan head, and a lot of lacing. A perfect pour from yours truly. Lots of roasted notes in the nose, some slight spices, coffee. Roasted malts hit the tongue first. Caramel and some fresh fruits follow. Has a basic malt finish. Med-bodied, velvety feel on the tongue, and easy to pound down. Enjoyed it. masonjer (563), Holt, Michigan, USA

Not my favorite style, but they do it well. dark black color on the pour with a nice tan head. Overall, it’s pretty straightforward. Nice chocolate and smokiness, but enough bitterness to keep it balanced. Very drinkable and well done. Worth a shot. joekinty (263), rockledge, Florida, USA

As this particular offering I found to be averagish-good, I’m not sorely lamenting its absence at my LBS...yet it was still worth trying to be sure.
Appearance: Coca-cola, pure and simple
Aroma: Weak smoke permeates all else.
Taste: Smoky porter! An American take on an English style mixed with Rauchbier.
Overall, it’s a one-trick pony, not especially smoky (but then again I love Rauchbier). I kinda dig it -- one caveat, though, if you’re not into the smoky beer thing, don’t bother with this one!
