I am learning that I don’t much like porter as a style. That is unfortunate because this is a very nicely balanced brew with good color, reasonable mouth feel and a nonlingering finish. But, I like hops.

I remember first buying this beer at a local liquor store in Las Vegas and having high expectations. The aroma had a nice nutty and smokiness to it. It poured an awsome black and had a brown head. The taste was exceptional, with notes of chocolate, coffee, and smokiness from start to finish. A nicely balenced porter and one of my favorites out there.

I general haven’t like Stone in the past (specifically the bastards) but this one is pretty good. It is not boozy and has a nice consistent taste. Nice dark beer with coffee and roasted nut taste with hints of smoke. If you don’t like smoked beers you will probably still like this as the smoke is not overpower like Left Hands smoke jumper for example. This has more of just a hint of smoke rather than it overpowering the whole beer.

brown pour, healthy tan head head, good lacing. Mellow chocolate, coffee. hints of dark fruits. Mouth is smooth and smoky. Bittersweet chocolate taste, slightly dry finish. Had in bomber on this occasion and have on tap at Strangebrew in Manchester. Delicious, wonderfully ballanced porter with a strong but mellow smokiness

22oz bottle from Total Wine, River Edge, NJ...pours black with beige head...malty aroma with subtle coffee and chocolate...smokey dry flavor, coal, roasted dark coffee bean, dark chocolate powder...abundance of flavor...creamy but dry mouthfeel.

22 ounce bottle, first pour, in tumbler (no pint glasses at my mother’s in AZ). Black with lasting tan head and lotsa lace. Smoky chocolate and chocolate chip cookie dough aroma. Fruity chocolate fig flavor, with smoke and roasted chocolate, and mild-to-medium finishing bitterness and some lingering smoky dark chocolate. Medium-full body and medium-low carbo. Friggin excellent all-around.

22 oz bomber in a snifter. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit, hint of coffee and smoke. Dark brown with nice tan head. Heavy smoke in the flavor with chocolate, coffee, and hop bitterness in the finish. Not a big fan of porters, hard to get through the smoke of this one. I’ll stick with Edmund Fitzgerald over this one.

I love the aroma, a deep smokiness with all kinds of robust chocolate and dates. Nice light brown head that is quite plentiful. Flavor is... porter. I’m just not crazy about porters for some reason. I love the smoky character to it. This is probably one of my favorite porters. I would drink a sample of this and love it, but a whole bottle is too much for me.
