Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Feb 29, 2008 Bomber purchased at Crown Liquors #15, in Fishers, IN. Pours a deep reddish brown with a sizable creamy/frothy head that leaves behind a trail of sticky lace. The nose is truly interesting. On the pour, I am hit by an aroma that reminds me of a peanut butter and banana sandwich (emphasis on the fruit). As the head diminishes, the peanut butter transitions into more of a cocoa note with a touch of fruity hops in the background. Medium-bodied and slick, with a smoky, roasted and lightly bitter finish. Thr flavor features a lot more roasted character than the nose would indicate. The flavor runs from dark roast, caramel and chocolate malt to a hard wood smokiness and fruity hops at the conclusion. This is a tasty and very drinkable porter with a subtle smokiness that supports, rather than dominates, the flavor. I would bet this pairs well with all kinds of foods. I suppose that i will have to acquire some more and find out if I’m right. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Feb 29, 2008 Great looking: rick dark brown (almost black) with a great tan beige head that held only so long. Smelled of a rich porter: chocolate, dark fruits, molasses, and smoke. Flavor is the same, pretty complex flavors that surface at different times as you drink further. Palate feels good, thick and rich. Overall: great porter... only way it would have been better is if it were a "strong ale" (thus leading to more alcohol and a bit more flavor). epf33 (222), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Feb 27, 2008 looks beautiful, just like a porter should, tastes smoky, hence the name, yummy coffee and chocolate flavors, would recommend to all porter drinkers Chapel (329), Levittown, New York, USA Feb 27, 2008 Pours dark brown with an off white head. Aroma mostly of smoke and fruit. Flavor is similar with the addition of some deeply roasted flavors. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Feb 26, 2008 From bottle : Pours very dark brown with bubbles clinging to the side of the glass. Forms a finger of light brown head, with tons of bubbles, that slowly fades, but leaves still more bubbles and pretty sticky lacing. Nose has alot going on. Fruit notes, smokyness, roasted malts, and small hints of chocolate. Flavor is very good too, this is a really nice porter. Roasty malts come out first, followed with some subtle smokyness. Towards the end we have some chocolate and coffee flavors, and a little hop presents on the very end. Feels wonderful in the mouth, very smooth. Medium body that just flows right through your palate. This is really a good porter. k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 25, 2008 Bottle - Pours appears dark brown with some chestnut highlights but when held to the light you find that it’s a dark ruby with brown edges. Lovely generous tan foam. Aroma is musty with light woody scents w/ faint peat smoke. Flavor is subtle roasted malt, faint chocolate and peat smoked malt (but not noticeably smokey). Mouthfeel is medium with light carbonation and a dry bitter finish. As the beer warmed, the peat smoked malt became a bit stronger toward the finish. rustychiles (997), Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 25, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a nice beown head. Aroma of chocolate, malt, coffee. Flavors of roasted malts, with subtle hints of chocolate, smoke and coffee. This is a very smooth well balanced porter. MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Feb 21, 2008 Poured from a 22oz bomber and served in an English pint glass. This porter poured a dark brown with a two-finger thick head of slowly fading tan foam that settled into a thin, creamy, lasting layer. Heavy lacing covered the sides of the glass. The aroma of the beer was made up of very mild chocolate, vanilla, and a bit of smoke. The flavor consisted of a subltle blend of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and roasted malts. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and creamy smooth with mild carbonation. Very tasty and smooth without the harsh, dry coffee bitterness displayed in other porters. Not enough smoke, though!
