yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Jan 30, 2008 Updated: Sep 28, 2009Bottle, 22oz. Pours a very dark brown, with a rather small beige to tan head. Chocolate, a little smoked note, cocoa and coffee in the aroma. The flavor has chocolate, roasted malt, some smoke, and a nice, hoppy bitterness. Full body. Long, roasted finish with chocolate, nice fruityness and a pleasant bitterness. A nice smoked porter, could wish for more smoked though. 6-4-7-4-14-3.5. 071228
Bottle, 22oz, at Cardinal. A clear, dark brown beer with a beige head. Roasted nose with chocolate and some smoke. Would have liked more smoke though. There’s only notes of smoke in the flavor too, chocolate and coffee, roasted malts that is, dominating, and a fine bitterness showing up in the back. The bitterness finishes off the beer in a nice way too. Full-bodied. A fine beer that probably would benefit from more smoke, but that’s just me maybe. 090728 johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA Jan 30, 2008 Poured black with a creamy brown head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavor was mostly the same. Where’s the smoke? tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Jan 29, 2008 Good porter, not remarkable. The smoke hardly comes through in the aroma, it simply has a sour chocolate quality, not off-putting, but not inviting. The appearance had the standard porter look, deep balck with a ring of crimson. The flavor was chocolate, roasty, and a little smoke, again a disappointling amount. The palte has the usual pleasing finish of bittersweet chocolate for a porter. the mouthfeel of this beer is on the thick side. Not bad. pforei (338), USA Jan 27, 2008 Dark brown with nice head. Mellow smoke and molasess/chocolate aroma/taste. Not overly "American" in a hoppy sense. Slightly bitter finish. Well balanced. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jan 26, 2008 Bomber. Pours a deep brownish black with a fairly thin head. Light roasted malt aroma with hints of chocolate but much less smoke on the nose and palate than I anticipated. Medium bodied with an ok mouth feel. This one is only my second smoke brew so I don’t have much to compare and contrast yet, but the Alaskan Smoked Porter is far superior to this beer. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Jan 26, 2008 Updated: Jan 30, 2008Great beer. Thick head and dark, almost black appearance. Looks "thick" in a good way. Aroma of smoke, but the dark malt flavors come through. Flavors could have been ever so slightly stronger. Wonderful on the palate. Smooth finish. Homebrewerguy (284), Oil City, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 25, 2008 The commercial description is right on for this wonderfully balanced beer. No one element is too pronounced but the smoked flavor is a bit understated IMO. Black malt is less evident than in most Porters as evidenced by the roasty flavor of other dark malts. tarjei (1741), Bryne, Norway Jan 25, 2008 Bottle, at Yngwie´s xmas-tasting. Dark brown/reddish color. Beige head.Roasted malt, not very much «smoked» here. Coffee and chocolate in a nice, but not world class porter.
