franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours almost black with a ruby hue. 3 fingers of light chocolate milk head with an aggressive pour that holds then dies to a ring. Smells of chocolate and a little caramel with a hint of smokiness. Tastes as it smells, subtle but delightful flavors and even an ever so slight hoppiness. Medium, creamy and smooth as silk in the mouth with a slight carbonation tickle. Drinks like a session beer and delightfully so.
Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Dec 23, 2007 Pitch black with a huge, creamy and lasting head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, sweet coffee and a light touch of smoke. The flavour has notes of sweet licorice, roasted malt, slightly bitter coffee, caramel and a light touch of smoke. The finish has a light touch of citrus, mostly grapefruit. 2566 doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours dark brown or black, can’t see through it when held up to the light in a pint glass. Rich, creamy light brown head. Smells smokey. With hints of malt.
Tastes less smokey than it smells but still smokey. The smoke is balanced well by the malt and the hops. Palate is creamy and smooth with no ill effects in the mouth. This isn’t my favorite style of beer, in fact I think this is really the first time I’ve had it since I started drinking beer. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA Dec 21, 2007 Bomber. Dark brown/black with a frothy beige head leaving striped lacing. Aromas of coffee, cocoa, raisins, dark cake and some minerals. Lightly smoky roast coffee flavor-robust but smooth- with some chocolate character. Mild charred leaf essence left behind. Very nice. Another quality brew from Stone. Speedle (262), Mid-Atlantic (Tour 2007-2008), Virginia, USA Dec 20, 2007 black pour..sudsy head....sweet malt aroma...coffee and charred goodness in the start ....crisp finish with a nice aftertaste....some licorice and chocolate but not overpowering...very nice, kicked back and complex blipp (1632), Newark, New Jersey, USA Dec 18, 2007 On tap at The Old Toad in Rochester, NY. Appearance: Black with small tan head. Aroma: Roasted malts, coffee and sweet hops. Palate: Full, coats mouth well. Flavor: Burnt chocolate malts, some coffee. Very well balanced by hops. Overall: Very tasty and well balanced beer. Loved it. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 17, 2007 On tap poured a deep opaque black body with a great two-fingered tan head. Nose of mild smokiness and bold maltiness. Coffee and chocolate notes and a bit bitter. Smoke come out more in the finish than in the first sips. Rivalled only by Alaskan Smoked Porter. Yum! lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA Dec 16, 2007 Updated: Feb 22, 2008Nice dark pour with an inviting look to it. Not a lot of smoked aroma or taste, which is something i thought was a bit off because it was a Stone, i was looking for over the top in both. Nice malty-ness but barely any alcohol to thicken it up in a way that it should have.
