COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2014 Coffee, nuts, and a very faint hint of smoke. Not your average porter, almost tastes more like a brown ale to me. Still good though.

The smell is subdued; only a hint of the smokiness comes out in the aroma, followed by some coffee and chocolate, more of an alcohol scent than the ABV implies. The color is very dark brown, verging on black. Pours a thick brownish head that takes a while to go away. The taste is charcoal, salty bacon, but very light for the style. The mouthfeel is a little weak, but the carbonation is very light and like it is said of many mainstream beers, "it goes down easy". This beer would be great for a BBQ, or for anyone like myself who wants to drink dark beers, even in the summer. Great take on the style. Highly recommend.

Bottled. Pours deep brown with an average, lacing tan head. Aroma of slightly roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and a hint of smoke. Sweet flavor that ends up dry with bitter notes. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carb. An excellent porter inndeed.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. This is a very dark brown beer with ruby red highlights. It has chocolate and red fruity flavours, a smoked/roasted body and a spicy red fruit, citrus, chocolate, oak and zesty and fruity finish. Excellent!

Poured from a bottle. Dark red and barely translucent. Aroma of chocolate, metal, and a little smokey. Thick body. Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, wood chips. Has a bit of a hop kick. Honestly, it doesn’t taste that smokey to me.

Nice brown head that quickly fades. Subtle aroma of smoke and dark fruit. Light body, nice subtle smokey flavor. Not overbearing. Finishes dry.

Keg in CBC Islington. Opaque black, off white head.Nose is smoked meaty frankfurter sausage, roasted malt, flinty minerally. Taste is smoked, wood charred, charcoal bitter. Not getting much of the porter. Slight roasted malt, minerally, bit of a hop kick. It’s not in great condition to be honest and a lot of the flavours are masked.

660ML Bottle; £8 so about 12 $ to my American homies ; I have wanted to try Stone smoked for years , so Im drinking it right now ; I expected more smoke for one thing ,its like an under-card or undercurant or some shit metaphor , either way any smoke texture is subtle or obscured . A big ass punch of rich roast and sticky alcoholic hops glides over my palate ... As I sip this shit lots of un-chill thoughts haunt my mind . Im stressed out and dissolutioned with everything since selling my business ... My life has no real meaning, ive gotta get out of this hick town and back home to London , only moved her for my business . This beer is soothing these issues a tad ...
this is a good floral porter , not a Black IPA , not really smoked , but tight ass shit when im feeling like this ... great tangy bitter finish ,,chocoloate covered boozy grapefruit
Keep it real .

From bomber to glass. Pours dark brown and slightly ruby in the light with a moderate but thick light tan mocha head. Wet, thin lacing. Aroma is sweet-roasted chocolate malt. Taste is rich smoke-roasted chocolate with a smoky roasted bitter hopped backend that lingers in fluidic ashen wisps. This beer gets better as you drink it. It's quite a bit like smoking a fine cigar. This is one great porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
