3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from 22oz bottle into tulip. Aroma is hoppy at first, then smoked malt, maybe a little earthiness. Beer is dark brown in color with a tan head which dissipates quickly leaving a fair amount of lacing. Taste is lightly sweet to a lightly bitter finish. Medium body with a slightly oily texture. Carbonation is average.
Overall good beer
Good example of a smoked porter.
Only paid $5.50 for 22oz bottle. Most other brews in 22oz on shelf were averaging $9.99 some as high as $14.99. For $5.50 it was well worth it, I will buy again at some point.

Perfect smoke porter, great thing is that this porter does not have the mesquite phenolics most smoke brews do. Great smoky roast aroma, nice body but nit stout like, clean clean finish. Great beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: medium dense to dark with a reddish hue, clear, thick head and great lace. Malt, roasted coffee, dry brown spice. Itís not really that smoke. Medium intensity. Dry, not sour and low bitterness. Dominated by malt. Roasted and burnt but not smokey. Great CO2. Nice depth and length.
Good port but not a great beer.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma is caramel, chocolate, vanilla beans, roasted malts and smoked grains. Taste is rich but fairly smooth malts balanced with medium clove and slight tanin hop character. The malt profile finishes slightly watered down but solid overall. Appearance is a clear dark amber with a thin pearl head that retains fairly well.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This beer had quite a hiss when I opened from the bottle and I got quite a bit of smoke. The beer poured a clear dark brown with some red shining through it when I held it up to the light and I got a thick beige head that left some good lacing around the glass. The aroma is dark roasted barley, some smoke, small amount of chocolate and coffee. The taste is dark burnt roasted barley where it probably gets some of the slight smokiness. The smoke is not overpowering, it is quite balanced. I also pick up some faint bitter chocolate but not much. The mouthfeel is on the medium side and is quite creamy. There is not much of a hop presence but there is a little bit of bitterness to balance the beer out.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark with a creamy off white head. Good head retention with plenty of legs on the glass. Molasses, bbq, Brown suger, caramel, bitter and slight coffee aroma. Creamy but not thick, bitter, charcoal, coffee and dark coffee flavors. The smoke/peat flavor is lacking but overall I like it. Great buy at just under $5.

In the spirit of a recent forum discussion Iím going to say that this beer was cheap, but tastes expensive. It also tastes cold and it tastes dark. Regrettably what it does not taste like is smokey. I understand that Stone wanted this to be a Porter first and foremost, but I donít have to like that, Iíd rather have smokey.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep, dark brown, bordering on black body. Thin, yet consistent tan head with substantial lacing. Rich and complex nose; cacao nibs, coffee, and peat. Dark fruit and possible berries come through. Fantastic taste, layered with roasty malts and spicy espresso flavors. Dark chocolate, oaky, woody, with a slightly charred component. Smokiness is an undercurrent, but noticeable. Great balance between acidity and bitterness. Slick and thin mouthfeel with a smooth finish.
