RPillsbury (112), Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England Aug 8, 2009 Keg at the White Horse’s American Beer Festival 2009. A smoked toffee aroma but the flavours are completely overpowered by the chocolate. It was really like drinking a Yoo Hoo. Scauca (408), Lovere, Italy Aug 7, 2009 Pump @ The white horse. This beer is awesome to me. Aroma is very complex, plenty of vanilla, cocoa beans, tobacco, some fruitiness, leathery, just an hint of smoke. Stunning. Flavour is complex as well, sweet balanced and warming. A beautiful beer. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Aug 5, 2009 [Tap] Pours a very dark brown color with a small tan head. Sweet and roasty aroma with some light smoke. Heavily roasted and burnt tasting caramel and molasses. Some smoke, but more of a burnt character. Slight astringency and below average mouthfeel. This is a pretty good beer, but it didn’t seem to hold up to some of the better smoked beers. Aggy360 (115), Anchorage/ Vista,CA, Alaska, USA Aug 3, 2009
Pours a dark brown with a red hue, and an off-white/ tan head. The aroma is sweet and roasted with hints of dark fruit and smoke. Taste is great, a full flavored porter with a good malt bill and balance of hops. There is a slight tobacco finish with the smoke. A great porter. WakeandBake (422), Greenville, Michigan, USA Aug 1, 2009 Bottle . A dark brown to black pour with a huge bubbly brown head , loads of sticky lacing left on the glass , light carbonation . Aroma of roasted malt , coco powder and hints of smoke and coffee . Flavor is very good , a nice roast to the malt , some coffee and light hop bitterness, light chocolate sweetness , and just a hint of smoke at the end . Full body with a creamy mouthfeel . a nice malty smoky finish . very drinkable and quite sessionable . NIce job Stone . Gypsy19 (602), California, USA Jul 28, 2009 Pours a deep amber-brown, not quite opaque but almost. Aroma is vague, but I can detect a little nuttiness and smokiness...the roasted malt comes through only after it has warmed up a little. Flavor: The smoke is the first thing out the gate, followed again by toasted malt, and then just a little coffee bean acidity. Creamy palate, but a little watery though. Overall, good minus. potbeercollege (252), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 28, 2009 Black/ Brown. Bottled Bomber. Beautiful thick tan.caramal head. rich flavor of coffee and smoked malts. well balanced finish. Almost oily palate. beernovice39 (240), South Carolina, USA Jul 28, 2009 Updated: Oct 14, 2009Dark brown almost black pour with a light tan head. Very deep complex flavors. Good stuff! Will get more tomorrow!
