Aug 19, 2009 Bottle. Pours a very dark black color with a good size tan head. Smelled roasted and smokey. Tastes of caramel, smoke and a little hopiness to it.

Aug 17, 2009 22oz bomber obtained at The Lighthouse in Manchester, Maine. Pours a virtually opaque black body with ruby-red highlights around the edges with a good half inch or so of light tan head. Smells roasty and slightly smoky. Tastes very roasty with some caramel malt sweetness, hints of citrus hops in the aftertaste, and undertones of smokiness. Rich full body with very moderate carbonation. This one is definitely a sipper, which is fine since the flavor lingers longer. One of the better porters I’ve had for sure. I’ll be sure to try and pair it with a pulled pork sandwich sometime...

Aug 14, 2009 Aroma is mostly malt; flavor is roasted malt with some coffee, and a slight buttery finish that I suppose is attributed to the smoke.

Aug 10, 2009 My first and only smoked porter as yet, and it was very nice. Colour was rich and dark and a creamy, thick head. Aroma not so strong, but what an interesting taste! Malt, chocolate, and at the end of it all, the smoke.

Aug 8, 2009 Keg at the White Horse’s American Beer Festival 2009. A smoked toffee aroma but the flavours are completely overpowered by the chocolate. It was really like drinking a Yoo Hoo.

Aug 7, 2009 Pump @ The white horse. This beer is awesome to me. Aroma is very complex, plenty of vanilla, cocoa beans, tobacco, some fruitiness, leathery, just an hint of smoke. Stunning. Flavour is complex as well, sweet balanced and warming. A beautiful beer.

Aug 5, 2009 [Tap] Pours a very dark brown color with a small tan head. Sweet and roasty aroma with some light smoke. Heavily roasted and burnt tasting caramel and molasses. Some smoke, but more of a burnt character. Slight astringency and below average mouthfeel. This is a pretty good beer, but it didn’t seem to hold up to some of the better smoked beers.

Pours a dark brown with a red hue, and an off-white/ tan head. The aroma is sweet and roasted with hints of dark fruit and smoke. Taste is great, a full flavored porter with a good malt bill and balance of hops. There is a slight tobacco finish with the smoke. A great porter.
