A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Dark with a creamy off white head. Good head retention with plenty of legs on the glass. Molasses, bbq, Brown suger, caramel, bitter and slight coffee aroma. Creamy but not thick, bitter, charcoal, coffee and dark coffee flavors. The smoke/peat flavor is lacking but overall I like it. Great buy at just under $5.

In the spirit of a recent forum discussion Iím going to say that this beer was cheap, but tastes expensive. It also tastes cold and it tastes dark. Regrettably what it does not taste like is smokey. I understand that Stone wanted this to be a Porter first and foremost, but I donít have to like that, Iíd rather have smokey.

Pours a deep, dark brown, bordering on black body. Thin, yet consistent tan head with substantial lacing. Rich and complex nose; cacao nibs, coffee, and peat. Dark fruit and possible berries come through. Fantastic taste, layered with roasty malts and spicy espresso flavors. Dark chocolate, oaky, woody, with a slightly charred component. Smokiness is an undercurrent, but noticeable. Great balance between acidity and bitterness. Slick and thin mouthfeel with a smooth finish.

Quite a light-coloured beer, as porters go (very red). Aroma is standard porter roast, toast, chocolate. Smoke is subtle, but provides some bite. Pretty dry.

tap. Brown with small head. Smoked porter with some woodiness. Surprisingly more wood than smoke. Bitter hops in the finish. Dry.

I was just browsing the porter rankings and noticed I didnít have this rated, but Iíve had it several times... Including about two weeks ago. This is a pointless rating, donít read it. Itís good.

Bottle from Rehills of Jesmond.ppurs mahogany with a cream head. Peaty smoke aroma. The taste is smokey with spiciness and burnt toast notes. Nice, but not quite as amazing as Iíd hope for from Stone.
