PapaSkeetSkeet (65), , Massachusetts, USA Jul 17, 2009 Pours an opaque dark brown with a medium brown head. Very attractive looking. Smells of a woody smoke, a bit of dark chocolate. A perfect bit of hops. Flavor is of a bit of smoke ’n’ BBQ. Malt and Hops are well balanced and fused together into one beer taste. Very Good. Thanks again Stone! drseusszb200 (185), Florida, USA Jul 17, 2009 poured black with little white head that faded quickly. smelled of coffee, chocolate, and smokiness. taste is very smokey at the beginning and fades quickly. madvike (301), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 16, 2009 Blind tasted - Real surprised when I pulled the brown paper bag off this baby, because I figured the smoke would be more noticeable. Instead, I got just a whiff of smoke on the nose, with some roast and malt. Taste was bitter chocolatey roast and a little burnt wood. Just a touch of that smoke, too. It’s medium and creamy--real nice in the mouth, but there wasn’t anything that stood out about this beer. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jul 15, 2009 bomber from a trade with scrizzz. pours dark brown with red highlights. thick tan head laces nicely. huge roasted malt aroma with a hint of smoke. huge and in your face. the flavour starts with roasted malt leading to a hint of smoke and a hoppy finish. hoppier then i thought it would be and not really that much smoke. really big for a 5.9% beer. wonderful porter all around. thx clint! ALCOHOLNIZM (59), WARWICK, USA Jul 14, 2009 ALMOST BLACK BEER WITH THIN CREAMY HEAD AND MILD SMOKEY AROMA ALMOST TASTES LIKE A GUINESS WITH A SUBTLY BURNT MALT FLAVOR , HINT OF RICH COFFEE AND LITTLE MORE LICORICE ESSENCE EXCELLENT BEER GREAT STRAIGHT UP OR WITH DINNER OR EVEN DESERT. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Jul 13, 2009 Bottle at home ... From Beer of Europe ... deep brown red .. thin tan head ... milky roast malt ... very soft ... creamy light smokey malts ... little chocolate .. little toffee ... just a touch too much sweet milk sugers that take the edge off this one WVHouseofBeer (339), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Jul 12, 2009 Ahh, boy do I love a good porter, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Right from the get go the smoked presence lifts to the nostrils followed by a pleasant chocolately coffee bean facade. This brew pours an opaque black that one friend said "looks like molasses," with a delicate, stout-like dark brown head. While Stone prides the Element part of the smoked malt, I would prefer a bit heavier smoked presence, after all it is a smoked porter. The body is the only region where this beer struggles, as it seems to carry a bit too much water, undoubtedly unusual for a Stone. Regardless, this brew is worthy of your attention, and your tastebuds. CP NOTE: Not nearly as smoky as a Rauchbier, and a PB and J really does go great with this one! fata2683 (837), Panama City, Florida, USA Jul 11, 2009 bottle, pours dark brown, tall tan head. Aroma of vanilla and cinnamon, with some roasted malt. Suprisingly lighter bodied, some roasted malt and sweet malt ends with a light smoke flavor that lingers with some hop bitterness. Nice and easy to drink, I wish there was more smoke.
