A very dark and smoky porter. Poured in to a Libbey Porter/Stout glass. Looks beautiful with a thick off-white head. Carbonation is just right in my opinion. Flavor got more complex as the beer warmed up. Would definitely repeat.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A nice smoky aroma drifts from the bottle as I pour into this porter glass, and the dark umber colored liquid is covered in seconds with a two finger, soft khaki head. The head is significant and certainly doesn’t block the smoke scent coming from the glass. Very smoky, a nutty and an almost hidden toasted coffee bean foundation floods my taste buds, the medium body being a good catalyst for the flavors. The carbonation is nice, although it could be a bit more lively in my opinion, but lasts well throughout the glass. The finish is comfortable, lasting, and something that will be hard to follow; perhaps I’m done reviewing for the evening.
Not my favorite Stone, but definitely another score for that brewer.

"Big Porter, rich, full, and robust as Stone claims. The fairly subtle smokiness (especially when compared to Alaskan’s SP) adds an uncommon complexity. good stuff!"

EBD 7/17/14. Clear dark amber pour (similar to Coke) with a nice garnet note. Normal head and retention very good lacing. Nice complex nose of chocolate, light roast with toffee/coffee notes, a very subtle hint of dark fruit and a light smoky character that becomes pronounced as it warms. Light medium bodied with an almost smooth texture. Good carbonation with a bit of effervescence on the finish and in the middle. The flavor profile is quite nice, balanced - with a smoky skew - and complex. It begins with roast, then fades into a light chocolate sweetness. The middle effervesces into a burst of smoke and light hops over a well balanced bitterness. As it flows into the finish, hints of dark fruit emerge. The finish leaves you with a nice smoky aftertaste that lingers over hints of dark chocolate.

Pours a dark black with tan head. Has a coffee, nut, malt, and chocolate aroma. Starts with a coffee and chocolate taste and continues with smoky flavors, malts, and coffee grounds. A very distinct smoky lingering aftertaste.

On draft. Aroma of chocolate covered raisins. No real smoke flavor or aroma. Instead some vanilla, cocoa and maybe some fig. Good beer, just not much rauch.

Bomber poured black with a big beige head that dissipates quickly. Very drinkable coffee toffee caramel hints but not sweet. Best part is if you nurse it and let it warm , the last bit has an almost scotch/peaty smoke taste to it. Very nice autumn beer....Just like all the brewery’s selections.
