Commercial Description:
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Black Coloring. Dark Tan Head. Smokey Aroma...my my my Susie! Heavy Smoked Flavor..Some Coffee and Chocolate.....the Smoke which I don’t Find That Appealing in my Beer...Seems to Dominate..so While I Can Respect that This is a Really Good Beer....’She’s Not My Type." "No Really...it’s not you.......it’s me....." Aug 2007 Rerate: Dark Brown Color with Sandy Ring. Dark Malts and Subtle Smoke Flavor on the Nose. Carbonated..Dark Malts Flavor..Smoke Notes are Well Balanced Yet Still Present Throughout..Bittersweet Dry Aftertaste. Very Nice Smoked Brew.

Hopnessmonster gave me a bottle to try. I was afraid I wouln’t like it due to an overpowering smoke Rauch flavor. Not overpowering at all. Dark in color. Very smooth texture that blends the malt and the little bit of smoke that there is. Very excellent take on a Porter.

22 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear dark red color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is chocolate and very light smoke and roast. Taste is caramel, roasted malts, coffee, tea and very faint tobacco-ish smoky notes. Medium bodied.

No smokey nose, but malty and chocolate-y. Black body with a little layer. Very light smoke and tabacco taste. Long lasting though.

It’s a cross between the smell of your clothes the morning after you stayed up late staring into the campfire and stale cigarette smoke. That’s the dominate aspect of the character, or at least the middle anyway. The beginning is more a good porter, warm and malty without crossing into stout territory. The ending is bitter hops with the lingering stale smoke. Actually, given the almost pitch black color and tan head of this beer, I’m surprised the malt doesn’t play a stronger role in the flavor of this beer. This would be excellent with grilled pork or some of the smokier barbeque I’ve had.

Nearly black, with light brown lasting head. Nose is coffee, lightly roasted and light malt. Good roasted profile , with just a hint of smoke

Great flavor, a medium amount of smoke needed a tad more for my liking. This could have been an early batch. This had a great carmel flavor with no hops and an overall flavor great for a good pasta. I likd the beer and liked the balance between malts, the yeast gave off a very dry flavor.

roasted/smokey malt. some coffee-ness. nice flavor. top quality porter. Best drunk by itself. I haven’t found another beer that follows it well, nor a food to pair it with. just sip it while reading a good book.
