COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Excellent pour, dark brown to black, with a great head that lasted a while. Eventually came down to a covering film. Good lacing as well. Aroma of chocolate and surprisingly, a decent amount of hops. This porter could be a good choice for a dessert beer. The flavor is semi-sweet, very light on the smoke, with licorice, chocolate and dark fruitiness up front, followed by a mild alcohol finish. Probably some coffee in there too. Above average, but not outstanding in my opinion.

Bottle. Pours a great thick black, tan head. The head is not huge, but definitely gets the job done. The flavors are great, the smokiness balances the sweet chocolate and the coffee is a nice back note. There are also of course some great malty flavors. Finish is very dry, overall balance is fantastic.

Bottle - pours dark, dark amber with a lively head. Aroma is nice and smokey but not overpowering; taste is smokey with toasted malt and a coffee semisweet aftertaste. Nice for a smokey beer, not something I would drink all night, but a great once-in-a-while brew!

UPDATED: DEC 3, 2007 Good beer, tried it with a PB & J as suggested on the bottle, nice compliment. Smoke flavor was more pronounced to me than the bottle and some other ratings suggest. Quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries.

Really enjoyed this (more-so after it got a bit warmer). Pour damn near black.

Pours a rich mahogany with a foamy tan head and great lacing. A smoky chocolate aroma, lots of smoke in the flavor, a bit acrid at first, but layers develop as you drink it, coffee and chocolate dominant. Great creamy mouth. Excellent and complex brew.

Great color and aroma, off in a little in the flavor, maybe more coffee taste would be appropriate

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2008 pours deep dark brown with a slight head that looks almost creamy. stays lacy throughout. I Don’t get an overwhelming smokiness like the name would suggest... at least not like you’d find in a Paradox (Brew Dog). Great, solid brew. This beer improves greatly with warming, finding a nice balance.

at first i was a bit intimidated... but it was really good... very dark with white head, and smells of chocolate and coffee.

Bottle, 22 oz. Pours black with a tan head. Smoky and roasty malt aroma with sweet dark fruit notes. The palate is met with sweet malt, then hops for a slightly bitter finish. I would have enjoyed some more smokiness, but it’s still good.
