Not much of a head on this, but a nice chocolate color, just a little light comes through. Smoky malt scent wafts up from this delicious offering. First sip, meaty flavor like a good charcoal grilled steak, cherry wood scent to it. Stays with you a while after you drink it. One of my new favorites

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very dark brown almost black.Had a nice tan bubbly head.Small amount of lace. The smell started out with strong berries, somewhat like bubble gum, then I sensed chocolate and malt.In the taste the first thing I noticed was the smoke, and the smoke taste is nice and smooth. It is well balanced in with the other flavors of chocolate, coffee, and malt. It has a medium-heavy body with light carbonation. This is a very good beer and does seem to have more of a punch then the stated 5.9 ABV.

this beer poured a browinish black with a little head that turned into a straw colored ring. i couldn’t detect much in the nose at first because i think the beer was a bit too cool. as it warmed up, i noticed the smoked maltiness. this beer isn’t complex in the nose, but smells delicious. the taste is of roasted malt with some hop bittering. superbly balanced. the mouthfeel is full and great for this style. overall, this is a freaking awesome beer that i could drink on the daily. a big thanks to barefootbrewer for sharing this one with me.

This is a more bitter porter than some. Its not too bitter. Nice flavor found in traditional dark beer. Overall good.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2013 Moderate aggressive pour. Huge head of coffee/mocha brown. Very nice lacing. Jet black beer. Arome is full of light smoke notes and some malts and yeast. Smoke balances well with yeast and malt which is apparent on the finish of the nose. Moderate body on palate, but expected a bigger body for a porter. Hop character overpowers on mid sip. Also bitters overpower on the finish. Carbonation on tongue offers unplesant bitter character. Hints of malt and yeast on initial sip, but quickly replaced with bitter hop taste. Very little smoke character noticeable throughout the tasting. Also very slight smoke flavor essence near the finish. Wouldja - No.

One of my faves, but I'm going to rate it anyway.. Pours black, no transparency when held up to the light. Brown colored head. Rich smell of darkly roasted malts. Fairly thick & robust palate. Definite smoke, quick dry dark chocolate, and finely balanced alcohol %. Finishes with the classic Stone hop/malt taste that runs in most of their flagship beers.

LOL leave it to stone to apologize about the Smoke (or lack thereof) in their Smoked porter. A decent porter nonetheless, which is surprising coming from Stone. For a real smoked porter Alaskan Brewing Company has a winner.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Light smoke, sweet. Hints of coffee and bitter choco. Decadent and smooth. Desserty but drinkable. I would of liked it to be more smoked. That’s about my only complaint. This beer is heaven in the mouth.

Amazing. Deep and dark reddish-brown body topped with an abundant frothy tan head, elegant lacing. The aroma is deep and rich- smoked peat, heavy malt, and baked bread nuances abound. The flavor delivers in full- initially sweet then malty with a smooth smokiness. Finishes with a dry yet sweet lifting sensation. Possibly the best beer I have ever had. I am in awe of this beer.
