A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

The nose was absolutely smokeless, but nonetheless smelled wonderful, as any good porter does. Distinct bitterness in the flavour. It was very creamy as I started drinking it, but became less so as time passed. Very good beer.

Appearance: Deep, slightly reddish dark brown. Tan head with slight retention. Smell: Estery malt nose with a hint of hops. Taste: Roasted malt with chocolate notes, a wonderful smoky background, and medium-light hops. Mouthfeel: Full-bodied and rich with medium carbonation. Drinkability: Very nice. The smoke is well integrated with the base style, and the base is no slouch either. My only issue is that the smoke is a bit too light; I would have liked to see a bit more of it in the nose.

Stone Smoked Porter was a very solid beer. Very smooth and easy to drink. It is definitely worth a try and should have one ready in your refrigerator.

22oz bottle courtesy of Russells in Amherst, MA. Following Stones advice I prepared a pb&j and cracked my bomber open. I ended up enjoying the sandwich more... Iím a big fan of Stone but this was just awful. SSP had a rusted metal, olive scent. Taste was of smoked rotten olives and beef. There wasnít an ounce of chocolate, vanilla or anything enjoyable in there. Mouth feel was okay but rather thin. When I started on the sandwich it brought out the alcohol flavor and made things worse. Maybe this bottle was bad? Maybe I havenít developed a taste for smoked brews? Either way, this is one of the few bombers Iíve had to give away, and even then, it went unfinished.

Pours dark, opaque brown with a tan head. This beer has a rich, roasted Malt aroma and taste. The flavor also has a nice smokey quality and a light hop finish. I enjoyed this on draught and it was creamy and smooth. A Very Nice Beer!

Not much of a head on this, but a nice chocolate color, just a little light comes through. Smoky malt scent wafts up from this delicious offering. First sip, meaty flavor like a good charcoal grilled steak, cherry wood scent to it. Stays with you a while after you drink it. One of my new favorites

This is a more bitter porter than some. Its not too bitter. Nice flavor found in traditional dark beer. Overall good.

Very dark brown almost black.Had a nice tan bubbly head.Small amount of lace. The smell started out with strong berries, somewhat like bubble gum, then I sensed chocolate and malt.In the taste the first thing I noticed was the smoke, and the smoke taste is nice and smooth. It is well balanced in with the other flavors of chocolate, coffee, and malt. It has a medium-heavy body with light carbonation. This is a very good beer and does seem to have more of a punch then the stated 5.9 ABV.

this beer poured a browinish black with a little head that turned into a straw colored ring. i couldnít detect much in the nose at first because i think the beer was a bit too cool. as it warmed up, i noticed the smoked maltiness. this beer isnít complex in the nose, but smells delicious. the taste is of roasted malt with some hop bittering. superbly balanced. the mouthfeel is full and great for this style. overall, this is a freaking awesome beer that i could drink on the daily. a big thanks to barefootbrewer for sharing this one with me.
