COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Very dark brown almost black.Had a nice tan bubbly head.Small amount of lace. The smell started out with strong berries, somewhat like bubble gum, then I sensed chocolate and malt.In the taste the first thing I noticed was the smoke, and the smoke taste is nice and smooth. It is well balanced in with the other flavors of chocolate, coffee, and malt. It has a medium-heavy body with light carbonation. This is a very good beer and does seem to have more of a punch then the stated 5.9 ABV.

LOL leave it to stone to apologize about the Smoke (or lack thereof) in their Smoked porter. A decent porter nonetheless, which is surprising coming from Stone. For a real smoked porter Alaskan Brewing Company has a winner.

a good, flavorful beer with a great sense of subtleness to its taste that blends well and is pretty smooth for even the moderate beer drinker. enjoy.

Light smoke, sweet. Hints of coffee and bitter choco. Decadent and smooth. Desserty but drinkable. I would of liked it to be more smoked. That’s about my only complaint. This beer is heaven in the mouth.

Amazing. Deep and dark reddish-brown body topped with an abundant frothy tan head, elegant lacing. The aroma is deep and rich- smoked peat, heavy malt, and baked bread nuances abound. The flavor delivers in full- initially sweet then malty with a smooth smokiness. Finishes with a dry yet sweet lifting sensation. Possibly the best beer I have ever had. I am in awe of this beer.

A excellent Smoked porter. Smokey flavor at beginning, then the familiar porter flavors, then back to a smokey aftertaste. Smokey flavor is not over the top.

Pours a nice deep dark brown with a light milk chocolate colored head. I love the smokey flavor with the subtle hints of chocolate.

Thick head but falls quickly. Malty, roasty nose with a hint of burnt coffee. Smokiness readily apparent but not overpowering at all. Moderate bitterness. Slightly sweet but somewhat balanced. Long, smoky/roasty finish with plenty of body. Very Stout-like due to prominent roast and bitterness.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2005 Nice beer. Never had a smoked beer before. I thought it would be like drinking bbq or something. This was really nice. It had a good bitter hoppy flavor... and the smoke wasn’t over powering.

Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, and a touch of smokiness. Nicest aroma I've yet run across in a beer. Beautiful appearance - nice creamy tan head, dark brown color, excellent lacing. Taste is good - the chocolate and coffee really come out, along with the "bite" of the beer. Smooth and a little creamy on the palate. Good finish. A new favorite of mine. Not something I'd guzzle...this is something to be savored.
