A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

From a 22oz bomber pours out a deep yet slightly translucent dark garnet color. Big, lumpy oatmeal like off-white head, chunky lacing clings to the glass. Smell is smooth, sweet and reminiescent of bitter chocolate and creamed coffee with thin prickling strands of bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy, wonderful and refreshing. Subtle smokey roastiness, with a semi-sweet cocoa middle and a teasing hop zing at the end. Excellent.

A smooth porter with a rich flavor. Nice finish to a good beer. Only hints of a smoky flavor. Recommended!

22 oz Bomber, pours a deep dark brown with a large, light brown frothy head, the head is mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malt, with a hint of smoke. Medium to full body with a dry, bitter-sweet finish. I loved this beer itís a perfect balance not overpowered by smoke.

Amazing beyond belief. Smoky chocolaty and just a well done coffee like appearance. I actually use this in a chicken marinade. Cheers to this one

A great looking beer, pours almost like a Guinness...my goodness! Needs to be accompanied with a T-bone steak. Pretty overwhelming smokiness mid-palate, but it has a smooth finish. Donít know why such a good brewery is in San Diego, I lived there for 3 years, and almost everybody drinks heineken or corona, heathens. However, I have always got good head in SD ;) Buy it at World Market, and save $2.

Outstanding example of a smoked beer, not as intense as a Aecht Schlenkeria Rauchbier and very tasty

My first Stone Ale and well worth the wait itís taken to try one. Appearance: Black with a very full and very lingering head. If looks could kill, this beer would be on death row right about now. smell: Chocolate first and foremost. There is also just the slightest hint of smoke to be found. taste: Again Iím getting chocolate above anything else, but the coffee undertones are still there in force and the smoky aspect.... not too strong not too faint, just about perfect. Mouthfeel: Very creamy and the smoke seems to be more noticeable than in the taste alone or the smell. Still not overpowering by any means, but more assertive and ready to scare off all those "yellow fizzy" beer drinkers. drinkability: Could see myself very easily having a couple bombers back to back of this majestic brew. Can only speak for myself, but it lives up to any hype itís been given and then some.

Pours a dark dark red brown with a latte colored head. Smells of roast, chocolate, sweet hops, a lot like your standard porter. If it didnít say smoked on the label, I might not believe it. Vaguely smoky flavor, lots of roast and chocolate, and it comes across as being incredibly rich and mealy. The smoke comes across much stronger in the finish than in the thick of the beer. Very balanced, with a decent hoppy edge that preserves its drinkability. Sticky, medium thick mouthfeel - somewhere between a standard porter (perhaps Anchorís) and an impy stout. Wood, chocolate, ash, a bit of bitterness, hints of coffee here and there. All in all quite a nice, big beer.
