COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Bottle. [thank you sk8viking].
2006 ’vintage’.
Pours blackish with a clear red-ness around the edges. A small creamy dark beige head settles nicely on top, before quickly becoming a thin film. Aroma is quite sweet, with a clear smoky edge. There are roasted caramel, a little coffee, some distant cherries as well. Quite high carbonation, making the beer relatively fresh. Flavour is great! There is some mild roasted tones, a good deal of chocolate, and only after a little while, the smokyness hits me - slow-burning. A nice well-rounded bitterness rounds it up nicely. A really great brew!

22 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear dark red color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is chocolate and very light smoke and roast. Taste is caramel, roasted malts, coffee, tea and very faint tobacco-ish smoky notes. Medium bodied.

Re-rate 2/12: Bottle sample at a Stouts & Porters blind tasting at Sar HaMashkaot Ramat Gan. 2 months after BBD. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted grains, a bit of coffee and light smoked wood notes. Sweetish roasty flavor with light acidity, continues drier, finishes bitter. Medium-bodied. 6/3/6/3/12=3

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2003 Another great beer from Stone. This one is not as edgy as Arrogant Bastard but still unique. Very dark color with a thin and lasting beige head. The aroma is smokey of course. Medium body, and the smoked flavor was not overpowering and complemented the malt perfectly. Slight bitter chocolate in the aftertaste. Well done.

Bottled: Reddish brown coloured. Clear. Has a light brown head. Light smoked, maltish and chocolatish aroma. Is malty, light spiced and light roasted in the flavour. Not much smoke to be noticed. Is thin bodied but yet smooth. Dies quickly on the palate. Has to draw a few points, because the smoke character imo is too vague.

650ml bottle. It pours a nice dark brown with some reddish hues, the head is thick and foamy. The head is slightly tan. It holds for a bit then recedes to some pretty nice lacing. It smells like an IPA with some brown sugar thrown in, Stone loves their hops huh. There is a hint of roastiness but much less than expected. The flavor isn’t hoppy bitter, but it has a considerable amount of hop flavor. There is also a hint of smokiness and some caramel sweetness. It is a bit mixed up but overall it is a decent brew. Very smooth for a smoked porter, drinks real easy. Initial big head that dissipitates. Understated smoke in aroma. Deep rich chocolate malt, roast flavour taste. Well malted and not overhopped. Satisfying medium to full mouthfeel. Good porter. On tap at Pizza Plant Transit.

Big bottle shared with OleR at Håndverkerstuene. Devil black body tinged with a brownish shade. Silky surface with a few dimples. Smell of earthy malts and candy sweetness. Smoked accented flavour, well integrated with the sweetness and dryness of chocolate malts. Bitter undertones towards the finish. Nice mouthfeeling and quite well bodied (Oslo, 19.03.2010).

Almost pitch black pour with a foamy light brown head. Aromas are light chocolate and toasted malts. Flavor is very smooth and a bit creamy. Roasted malts, chocolate and a hint of coffee. This actually reminds me of a a beer in the realm of a dry stout. Nice beer.
