COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Chinook/ Columbus dry hopping makes it quite hoppy for a porter, smokiness isnt that prominent, i expected more caramel-toffee profile, a bit sour too.

650ml bottle. pours a rather dark brownish black with thin, firm tanned head. aroma is dark malts, coffee, cocoa and dark fruits but no smoke. taste is smooth bitter cocoa and coffee with a malty finish. alas, no smoke either but still, a great porter.

650ml brown bottle. Medium amber colour, clear. Beige foam, creamy bead. Good lacing. Aromas of chocolate and light smoke. Roasty dark malt and coffee flavour with late entering smoke underneath, nice bitter malts in the finish. Body is a bit thin. Tasty.

I don’t know if I got a bad batch or if my taste buds are a little flat today, but i remember this beer being more complex and more smokey the last time I had it. it tastes really bland for a stone beer. the smokiness is muted and it tastes a little watery. it’s still a good beer though with good chocolate and coffee notes

Vom Fass, Schwarz im Glas, extreme Röstaromen in der Nase, frisch im Antrunk, die Röstaromen kommen wieder im Abgang. Hatte ein viel schwereres Bier erwartet, gut trinkbar

Nice dark amber color, pleasant smell but nothing overwhelming. Taste is more mild and drinkable than I expected. If you’re looking for a Porter this is a good one.

ROGUE (2127) - Newark, Delaware, USA - NOV 9, 2014
22oz bottle. Pours a deep dark mahogany color with dark ruby highlights around the edges, topped by a super thick and creamy tan head that sustains and leaves excellent lacing. Aroma is roasted, dark malts, some dry cocoa powder, slight char, some leafy, ashy, and dry hop character. Taste is roasted, nearly burnt malts, dry, light cocoa, bitter slightly sweet coffee beans, and herbal hops. The smoke shows up in the finish and is more noticeable as the beer warms. Smooth medium body with moderate carbonation.

Bomber pours coffee-black w/a persistent tan head. Faint roast aroma, medium-bodied chocolate/coffee palate, ending with a roasty finish. Overall, a great porter at an even greater price.

650mL bottle Enjoy by 11/22/14 Deep, near-opaque, ruby body, holds a small but tight beige head. Moderately intense aroma; roasted malt, charcoal smokiness, some dark chocolate & citrus hop character. Medium bodied, smooth creamy body, moderate carbonation. Roasted character continues on the body - burnt nutty, malty, charcoal, with light charred woody smoke, cocoa & dark chocolate, good measure of grassy, floral, citrus hop. Moderate bitterness, drying on the finish. Pretty good. Not overly smokey, decently made porter.
