COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

From the tap out of my growler. Pours a near pitch black with a tan head. Smell of sweet chocolate and subtle coffee notes. Taste is very sweet and robust from the chocolate and smokiness. Great malt body that also gives it itís sweet body. Good beer.

26th May 2015: on a four beer flight at the Stone Oceanside outlet. Dark and foreboding brew, burnt coffee esters fill the nose with a smoky trace or two. Taste similar, coffee and smoky. Slightly bitter finish. Decent.

Black, darker than usual for a porter. Aroma is weak and flavor is like a porter with thin mouthfeel, maybe even dry, and a very strong smoky flavor. This should be had with BBQ. Some chocolate I didnít care for but also cola and a bit of hops to balance but not very bitter. Very malty and a bit of caramel.

Bottle at tasting. Black brown pour, small head. Aroma of roasted malt, cacao and a little caramel. Taste has mild smoke, soft roast, cacao, coffee and caramel malt. No peat actually.

Old rating. Black pour with off white head. Slight smoke, chocolate, dark fruits, coffee. Roasty and creamy, nice.

Overhopped, bitter, somewhat rancid. Iím wondering if I got a bad bottle, because I cannot fathom how this beer is enjoying such a high overall rating on Ratebeer. Yuck. Almost a pour-out. Tastes like someone dropped a cigarette butt in a bottle of Big Rock Traditional Ale.

22 oz bottle. Tasted on 4/4/15. Bottle courtesy of Espo. This had a pretty mild smoked element to it & was pretty well balanced with the chocolate & Mike bitterness. Pretty nice overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, finally getting a chance at this. We get most of the flavored varieties here, but never the plain?! Anyway, deep brown beer, decent almond colored head, good lacing. Aroma dried plum, coffe, smoke, toasted barley. Taste is toasted barley, faint fruit, coffee. Palate a bit light, carbonation a bit sharp, for style. I like the hops at the finish, this is almost dry.

One of my favorite porters, donít really drink many porters these days, this would be right on top of my list..
